Won't happen. - DamnBrasKiss
I hate absolutes lol.
As an aside, Nylander will probably get a Pastrnak tryout this season. Depends how much better he's gotten. Again, training camp hasn't started yet, so how do any of us really know. |

I'm not sure whether I'm still the only one on here that beliefs Marner has a decent shot to make the team.
As I said several times before, although Nylander is more ready for NHL duties than Marner, I think Marner has nothing left to learn in OHL + he actually would be an addition to the Leafs team (both because he is an exceptionally talented player + Leafs FW are not that good in general).
I believe Marner will earn his spot on the team during the preseason like Matt Duchene did after he was drafted.
I think as well, he will start on a line with JVR and Kadri.
2nd line Lupul, Bozak, Parenteau.
Matthias - Arcobello - Panik 3rd.
Winnik - Holland - Komarov 4th.
End of season after deadline, Nylander will join team and take 2C when Bozak is traded.
Marner next year will start playing C in NHL. - MaximusAurelius
disagree 100%
he will learn to be a leader.. he will go to the WJC as a key member of team canada
domi is gone now.. the knights will be marners team
and everything you are saying flies in the face of the develop slow mantra the leafs brass have been saying repetitively over the off season
sorry man.. its a fools dream
NOT to mention the knights are you know.. OWNED by Mark Hunter

If he's not on the Leafs before 2017-2018 season, Marner can be considered a bust.
Few people appreciate how good Marner is.
By far the best player Leafs have had on the team since Sundin left; indeed including Kessel. |

Ryan strome spent 2 years in the ohl after draft, and started the next year In the ahl. Relax with the rushing guys.
Doesn't make much sense playing the kids in this mess. |

Oh, hes good...perhaps even great. But between Shanny, Dubs, and Babcock the common word being expressed is patience. |

yes but Babcock will not keep him off the team if he feels he is a considerable upgrade over rest of team, and ready for NHL.
Which I think he definitely is. |

Check out top5 drafted player in last 5 drafts before 2015, and then look at when the started first 10+ games in NHL.
Marner should be getting his first 10+ games definitely 2016-2017, and I expect already this season. |

I'm not sure I agree there simply by looking at past drafts.
2011: 5 of 7 were in the NHL right from the draft, 1 more a year after, and only Strome 2 years after the draft.
2012: 2 of the top 6 picks were in the NHL right after the draft. 3 more of the 6 were in the NHL a year after the draft. The only one not is Griffin Reinhart.
2013: 5 of the top 6 picks were in the NHL right after the draft. the sixth was in the NHL a year after the draft. |

Babcock has also talked about making sure the kid is ready. You rather pay the kid to play now not be very productive and have to pay him more early, or wait till he's truly ready and pay him elc while putting up very good numbers. |

Nylander will get some ice time this year for sure...likely spend most of his time in the A, but will get his chance. |

Burn, my point isn't about rushing them, it's that we can't be talking absolutes with Marner. We haven't drafted a guy of his ilk since Vincent Damphouse. It's a two way street, if he's not ready, don't rush him. If he is ready, don't pigeon hole him just because of some organizational mandate. Let the kid do his talking on the ice. Then make your decisions. |

Babcock is smarter than you give him credit for then. He won't be rushing anyone. If there is a player who is NHL READY, they will play full time...but I have a hard time believing anyone as experienced as Marner will be getting much time beyond exhibition. |

absurd - Dozzer
He's just basing it on a pattern of the past four drafts. It's clear for example that Griffin Reinhart isn't up to par with Morgan Rielly, Jacob Trouba and Hampus Lindholm. That doesn't mean he's a bust, it's just that if it takes Marner three years to get here, odds are he isn't what we're hoping for. |

This is a non-issue.
If he is ready, he is ready.
What Babcock said, is not burning a year on ELC if a player is not ready.
Marner playing 60+ games this season and getting 30+ points would not be 'a waste'.
The argument has a flipside as well:
my scenario (3y of ELC, starting 2015-2016):
30points - 45points - 65 points.
your scenario (3y of ELC, starting 2017-2018)
65 points - 70 points - 75 points.
Now what's the best position for Toronto Maple Leafs to negotiate a new 5y+ deal?
(considering TML won't be battling for the cup next three years, Marner's cap hit will be more important 2018 and beyond than before that).

2 years to fully develop is very normal. Especially when the team is expected to suck like the Leafs. Regardless of how talented the kid is. |

I think if you go back and look you'll see that it's not working. The team isn't getting a benefit and are being negatively affected later on.
