So how do you get a positive goal differential?
If you have possession & lots of shots on goal but your opponent has little possession low shots & a goal who has the positive goal differential?
Possession & shots on goal do not guarantee goals - they provide the opportunity to score a goal. - Aussiepenguin
And 7/10 the team with the higher amount of scoring chances wins the game. It's imperfect but still a solid indicator. Corsi's actually an extremely simple stat. I think it gets poop on simply because people place it in the advanced metrics category and there is still a very large amount of old timers in the hockey fan base that want to go back to no helmets and an enforcer on every line. |

In general terms it does. Just like studying generally leads to better grades. |

Ummm more shots will overall = more goals absolutely. You can argue shot quality all you want, but rebounds and crashing the net score just as much as the perfect play being set up. You make more shots, you get more dirty goals. |

Im going to love flying in under the radar. I keep listening to NHL radio on Sirius-XM and all I hear is how bad things are for the Penguins. The forwards stink, defense is too young, too soft. they even expect the Pens to finish 5th in the division behind NYI, WASH, CBJ and NYR. One even went so far as to suggest Crosby and Malkin are on the down side of their careers and that the Penguins Stanley Cup window has closed.!
I hope these guys enjoy eating their words next summer! |

it does make no sense, but I do wish sid and geno had one more cup and toews and kane had one less.
I hope we can take the cup 2 out of the next 3 years with this group. but 1 year at a time. They just have to win key games in their division against rags and flyers.. one to gain ground and get a better seed and two so those no talent asshat posters leave this board alone |

Boomer and that sycophant that's on there with him are idiots. I've listened to some of their other team previews. |

If they want to poke holes at the Penguins, the defense if 1 player goes down is the perfect way to do it. We know, they "should" know it, it is what it is. |

it really depends on Maatta. Maatta could be pretty much anything this year, from another washout year to a Norris-caliber two-way defenseman.
If Maatta is back to being really, really good, or even better due to maturity, the Penguins will be able to better weather a Letang injury.
Their confidence in him must be pretty high considering the fact that he's pretty much being counted on to be a top-pairing guy. |

The Shero/Bylsma regime was all in on Maatta and the Rutherford/Johnston regime seems to be so as well. Olli is tough as nails. Fought cancer at what? Age of 19? People keep talking about the iron man Dupuis is and rightfully so. I think Maatta is cut from the same cloth. I know it's not a sure fire thing but in my heart of hearts I know Olli will be back and healthy this season. |

There's good reason to be "all in" on Maatta. To play at that level at his age is remarkable. |

I have all those bolded on my queue because people pass them up. Really underrated players relative to their production. |

Is everyone sold on the top pairing of Maata and Letang? I remember them not being so great together.
For discussions sake who should be second in line to play with Letang? |

My guess is Cole. If Maatta and Letang are a disaster together I think you have to go
Cole-Letang
Maatta-Lovejoy
Pouliot/Dumoulin-Clendening
I hate that defense... But if Clendening can play midpairing in our system and Dumoulin or Pouliot can play the right side I love it. |
