I'm not talking about your enforcers. Enforcers wouldn't hit or forecheck, how many checks did Scott tally last season? If you look at the Ducks you start at Getzlaf first & foremost. If anything he goes a little too crazy, but physically when it counts he can step it right up (not talking boxing there), does Tim Jackman still pull on a Ducks uniform?

We don't have those types so are left chasing the Sesito's of the world because of that. Despres would be nice to have & he's an example of the type of guy I'm talking about - hits, checks & drops when the occasion asks him to.

I think Malkin is pretty close to Getzlaf in terms of physicality and toughness. Malkin will fck your day up.

Unfortunately the hit he laid on Girardi is not business as usual for Geno. I wish it was but its not. He has all the tools to have a snarl to his game like Ovechkin but he doesn't usually play that way. He's my favorite player in the league right now but the fact he doesn't play a more physical game disappoints me sometimes because he could be a beast.

Right on there Vic! He seems to lose his mojo too, not lift himself when he starts getting into poop fights. If he just hit the way he can without picking fights he would be Giganto Geno!

NYR have Glass and that is it for team enforcers. Even ANA, a big physical team, doesn't have any traditional enforcers on their roster.
- jfkst1

You obviously don't need a traditional enforcer in today's game. It doesn't hurt to have a couple of big guys that can play, hit and throw them if need be.

Honestly, I would have loved if somebody stood up for Sid and pounded Dubinsky to a pulp after he took numerous cheap shots during that playoff series. Dubinsky put a vicious cross check right to Sids ribs (not called of course). Sid was already struggling and I was surprised he was able to finish that game.

Seriously, If I was coaching that team. A guy like Sestito would have been called up for one purpose. Grab Dubinsky and pummel him. Can't have your stars taking total cheap shots. I don't care about the instigator.....PK will kill those necessary penalties.

You have the hitters, wasn't it Seabrook that put Backes through the boards 2 seasons ago? I'm not talking about Carcillos or Rinaldos I'm talking about the guys that will hit harder forecheck more & just be real 'hard' when they play the game. They will turn up the heat when they need to, we don't have anyone that will do that except Tanger & Kuni (sorry but no ones afraid of Kuni). Hopefully Plot throws his weight around & Dumo steps up but they have more things to concentrate on than looking after 'business'.

Let's wait until the season starts until we deem this team soffer than warm butter. We don't know how things are gonna shake out yet. It's my opinion that now that the core has a supporting cast they can rely on that there will be greater comradery on the ice. People forget that we do have sand paper on this team in Perron, Plotnikov, Malkin, and to smaller degrees Kunitz, Letang, and Fehr. Let's see how they rally around each other and how they respond to teams trying to take liberties.

I would even go as far to say if Scuds got an edge to his game & threw his huge hip checking arse around a lot more he could become a weapon that we could all applaud - Datsyuk hit last pre season comes to mind. Lots more of those babies & we could have our man!

Edit: is he fast enough to do that anymore?

Hahaha I was kidding. I actually rank them Fury Road, Mad Max, Mad Max 2, and then BTD dead last. I'm not as high on MM2 as others are, and yeah I'm sorry but the new one definitely beat the originals

I don't know...maybe it's just because of the way the Rangers play him but he's always a tough SOB that doesn't take poop from anyone in Rangers Pens games. I mean yea that hit on Girardi was next level but he still doesn't back down from any ranger.

Not sure who you guys have but the Hawks don't have that guy and it worked out for them ok.

If you go with Car Bomb, he was in the press box most nights so I wouldn't count him.

Guess you could say Bickell. He is a big guy who will hit but not a pugilist by any stretch.

Shaw will fight and even win some but at 5'10" (generous) not sure he is what you'd call a deterrent.

- HawkintheD

yes Carcillo wasn't on the ice every night but I don't think anyone wants a Sestito type player in the Pens lineup every night either. At least have that type of player in the AHL and call up if you know you're going into a hostile environment....

Dubi does that to every star on every team in the league and doesn't get pummeled by goons. It's not like you guys are the only team that doesn't do that.

You've just been given a years worth of majors there my friend!

Fury Road should never have seen the light of day! We took development rep teams of 13 & 14 year olds away & we watched that on the Saturday night - I told all my team to definitely NOT tell their parents we watched it!

Anybody catch Sirius XMs preview of the Penguins with Boomer and his side kick ? Listening to their comments you have to wonder if the followed the off season at all. They were saying the Pens were to top heavy cap wise and won't be able to ice 4 solid lines. Then Boomer wondered how Winnik would fit into the lineup....I stopped listening shortly after that

Then it's time to give him something to think about before he does it again. He's exactly the type of player you need to have a goon stashed somewhere in the system. I could care less what other teams do.

The only large physical AND useful player that is available right now is Franson. And unless Scuds is gone, Franson isn't coming in.

He probably hasn't finished crying about his "beloved blueshirts" falling flat on their faces last year to notice that other teams have made changes.

I know you come over to the Hawk thread too. Stop by during a Blues game. It's fairly civil but one of their guys called Backes the "classiest player in the league".

There is no way he could have been serious but somehow I think he was.

Boomer is a complete moron. I have heard some of his other preseason team reviews on the days I take the company truck out which has XM radio.

I guess you're right. Malkin normally turns on the snarl in devision games against the Flyers, Rangers, and Islanders. Just wish it was something that was automatic and not something he turned on when he feels like it.

Haha come on dude. Fury Road was awesome. Movie starts at 100 mph and doesn't let off the gas. The only Mad Max with an actually good story was the first one so if we're going off pure action the new one takes the cake.

Dumb comment....but that's not really surprising considering you think Staals handy work on Sid's head wasn't intentional.

Actually as the season wore on it became more apparent that there was no need for Car Bomb for those situations either.

He would run around out of position looking to make a hit which resulted in his linemates having to cover for him on D. Too bad too, as the guy does have a little bit of skill and could be a decent 4th line guy. Supposedly a good locker room guy too.

Desjardins, the guy the Hawks picked up at the TDL gets it...plays his position forechecks well and takes the hit when it's there. I'm sure the Pens could grab a guy like that.
