Fun fact: Sestito has twice as many goals (6) as Goc (3) does in their last 82 games played. - hardnosed
The charts say Goc could actually play on a 3 rd line with a guy wearing blue skates. |

I agree. lets go back to 6 teams playing on ponds with canes after work. no helmets, protection equipment (makes the game more exciting). for every one "shhhh: moment one could find dozens of times that didnt work. its only coincidence when it does. nobody wants physicality taken out of hockey... just pointless, boring, meaningless fights that 1. put a player who has minimal skill on the roster or 2. risk injury to a player who has skill. Hockey is slowly moving that way thankfully, and if you cant handle it stop watching. (I suggest wwe, or nascar) - ChrisMS
Look first off if you were filling lines with skill it would be one thing but you are placing players in the league that are marginal talents. Your just replacing physical with a AHL caliber talent. Or a guy that wins a faceoff. The product isn't improving just the style is changing. I'm not the guy reinventing the game. I love hockey and it was doing just fine without your Liberal views.

It makes the game more exciting. I don't remember to many people touching Gretzky in his career. He had a long productive career and while it doesn't intimidate other goons it does make the pesky guy think twice. Cooke got away with his hits because of rule changes in the NHL over the years.
To bad people are so soft these days that they have to take physicality out of all the sports. Hockey isn't for everyone. If you can't handle it stop watching. My god I don't need a chart to explain why Marcel Goc sucks to watch on any team. Fighting changes momentum, Big hits do too.. See Max Talbot shhh. Hockey doesn't need reinvented. - lloyd095
Like I said, I'm not anti fighting but this goon culture needs to get got. It's the exact same concept as if NFL teams all of a sudden decided that they needed chop block specialists to match up against DBs and LBs that were hitting the QB or RB too hard. It's intended to injure which is already a massive problem and ruling the lives of the guys that experience the worst ones (see that scum bag Pronger and unfortunately probably Kris Letang in the future) and it makes players that are actually good at hitting hard and cleanly think twice about making good hockey moves on star players because they know that they'll either have to answer the bell as per the stupid "code", or that the fight is going to get skipped al together and the other team's goon will just set out to injure him, or worse yet, injure his team's star. All you guys are taking about how getting rid of the enforcers would diminish the level of physicality in the game. Not so. It would actually increase the level of good, in-game physicality |

fine? the game is lagging behind tennis and golf. you mean it was doing fine for you! not the owners, players, and other fans who want to see the game grow. there is more than enough talent without playing what is equivilent of talentless players... ahl has a ton of nhl talent being blocked by the sesito types... should he be signed, rust, wilson, sund, could all be blocked. the only marginal talents are the goons whos fighting serves no purpose but to interupt a great game to please a handful of bloodthirsty fans who want to see players bash each others faces in. |

Teams have taken the liberty of taking shots at the superstars on our team. Downie was a light weight and spent to much time running his mouth . They need a tough guy.....four lines during the regular season is over rated .....having all the players healthily come January is important. Who is going to stand up to Wilson from the caps , kasin from the habs... Clarkson and Dubinsky from the blue jackets. When other teams have tough dirty players you need someone too protect your assets . |

Out of curiosity, why play him against the Flyers now that Rinaldo is gone? You guys say the Flyers always get you off your skill game. I'm not sure that playing Sestito is going to help alleviate that.
Also, if Downie was such a deterrent, why didn't he beat the living crap out of Rinaldo last season? I was honestly begging SOMEONE to do it. After the hit on Letang, I was screaming for someone to lay him out at every game I went to, especially the one in Pittsburgh. - jmatchett383
Downie is not a fighter any more too many injuries....he has become a skill player |

This is the old talent vs. goons argument.
Goons gotta go.
Talent must stay.
Goons with quasi talent can hang around the locker room. |

Hartnell, Simmonds, e.Kane, Buff, Iggy, younger Lecav, etc. I have no problem seeing on the ice, unless they do something stupid, then bc of reputation should get worse penalty.... but all those players have talent as well as grit...

I would love it if all countries around the world dismantled all of their nuclear weapons.
But I don't want the United States to do it first, before all the others.
I want goonishness eradicated from the game. But it's still here. The Penguins better have some kind of weapon, even if they're in the minor leagues.
Having an enforcer doesn't matter until it does. |

The best weapon is to respond to it is scoring on the PP. |

That would be good for both parties. Buffalo can afford him, has a terrible defense, and will give Franson plenty of TOI to prove his value on his next contract. It's also no threat to Pittsburgh as opposed to him landing in CBJ. |

Let me ask you something and I'm not being a Richard but if it was reversed and the Pens did all of that crap to get the Flyers off their game would you be cool with it? Personally I would because whatever I have to do to win I'm willing to. I have no real issue with those teams doing that my issue is with the Pens allowing them to do it - dbell646
Nope |

That sounds like a regurgitation of the company, er, team line.
One bad hit on Letang and the season is over. Every team in the league knows this. If you want to get rid of the Pens as competition for the Cup (and a lot of teams will want to do this), just take out Letang.
The more bad hits that are allowed to happen and go unanswered, the more liberties will be taken in the future. A stupid PP in the regular season which may or may not be called which may or may not affect the outcome of a single regular season game out of 82 games is of little consequence. Losing a player to a bad hit can derail the entire season. |

The "high road" BS hasn't worked out for the Pens. The Pens players were constantly being run and hacked (resulting in some injuries), and despite the lack of retaliation, the Pens had the lowest PP to PK disparity of any team in the league. The trend continued in the playoffs.
I spoke with my Wings fan friend and we concluded that there is some backwoods Canadian ethic which applauds teams who stick up for one another and for themselves. Players and teams who don't do this are looked down upon as unmanly or lacking intestinal fortitude and will not get the benefit of the calls. |

I agree, they have some good prospects on defense and Risto is the real deal but he and Bogosian and Gorges are the only thing they really have that is ready. |
