Actually as the season wore on it became more apparent that there was no need for Car Bomb for those situations either.
He would run around out of position looking to make a hit which resulted in his linemates having to cover for him on D. Too bad too, as the guy does have a little bit of skill and could be a decent 4th line guy. Supposedly a good locker room guy too.
Desjardins, the guy the Hawks picked up at the TDL gets it...plays his position forechecks well and takes the hit when it's there. I'm sure the Pens could grab a guy like that.

That's what people aren't grasping. Goons don't actually help anything in terms of protection, they hurt on ice production, and they only serve to perpetuate the circle of dangerous violence that the dumb poop code endorses. The real need is for a unified team that would go to hell and back for each other. That's been the Penguins' real problem recently, not their lack of a solid enforcer goon. It's not surprising either. Why would Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Neal/Hornqvist, and Kunitz feel the need to stand up and go to war for guys that constantly leave them high and dry when it comes to support. With a productive bottom six we will see a change.
