Is it a violation to have a screen name of a player that is no longer on the team?

Yes.

That is why I asked the question.

Was just curious if anyone else played.

What is ball hockey? Is that deck hockey with a ball? When I played roller, we switched to the teflon puck when I was 15, but used a liquid-filled ball until then.

I've seen Giroux fall on his backside. I've heard about Giroux grabbing a backside. Does that mean we should trade him too?

Bottom line, there is NO trade that they can make before the season that will substantially change the fortunes of this team this year. The players that are being discussed as expendable are not going to bring back maximum returns. I don't want to sell low quite frankly.

More than likely their best option would be to start the season and then starting around the 1st of the year see where they are and re-balance the roster as necessary and as opportunities present themselves.

It has everything to do with him being a dude who grabbed a cop's ass.

The original conversation of moving Read in the right deal. Some do not believe he has value, which I disagree. I would dangle him to see if a young prospect on the verge of getting in the NHL is possible. A responsible young forward to add to the up and coming youth.

JSaq never gave his opinion about the deal. He simply gave reasoning as to why the deal was made. Even prefaced it by saying it was a bad hockey trade. Are you Retaldo?
- PhillySportsGuy

It was a bad hockey deal. There's no question about it. I'm sure that there were other factors involved, besides the cap. Hartnell was an undisciplined player, who butted heads with the coach at the time. He didnt skate that well, and was a streaky player.

He was also a 31 year old power forward with a lot of years left on his deal, so the cap implications are not an excuse, theyre one of several factors. He absolutely could have made a better trade, though. Umberger was hurt and played poorly. I'm not sugar coating it at all

Going back to the earlier Utley discussion, for what it's worth about Utley’s defense, he did win a Fielding Bible award for best defensive 2B. They were started in 2006 and are voted on in a much more statistically rigorous fashion and by a tighter group than the Gold Gloves -- Bill James, godfather of sabermetrics, Peter Gammons, etc.. Gold Gloves have always, even recently but they've gotten better, been by and large popularity contests where sometimes they hit and sometimes they don't. Jeter won 5 ( ); Michael Young won one at SS; Rafael Palmeiro won one at 1B....in a season where he played 135 games as a DH. Gold Gloves have a lot of cachet....but their validity can often be really really questionable.

With new rules having people no longer involved with beisbol stripped of their votes and the old guard giving way to the new, it's possible and I really hope Utley makes the HoF. Baseball HoF voters have been, time and time again, just god awful in their recalcitrance and stubborn tunnel vision. I honestly think they are the worst HoF voters in any sport by a mile...and then throw in another 5000 miles. Maybe one day they'll let Richard Allen clean someone else's plaque or something.

I could say that if you look at Utley's prime years, he was the second best position player in WAR behind Pujols, a godlike hitter (and great defender fwiw) in the realm of the Musials and Gehrigs. Utley's hitting, fielding, base running were all terrific. So what if he had a shortened injury plagued career? He still has a sizable body of work. Here's a good stat for 2B HoF comparables. Career WAR: Sandberg 67.5 WAR (2164 games).....Roberto Alomar 66.8 WAR (2391 games)....Biggio 65.1 WAR (2850 games)....Utley 61.7 WAR (1551 games). That's just crazy. For the person who mentioned Ryan Howard in regards to peak years, Howard's MVP season registered a 5.2 WAR in a 17.1 WAR career. Utley put up consecutively 7.2, 7.3, 7.8, 9.0, 8.2, 5.8. His best season was statistically better than half of Howard's career. Utley, in his prime, was better than any of those guys. Not to mention 2B like these don't grow on trees either. I think an important question to ask of any prospective HoFer is, how did he compare to his positional peers? Utley was head and shoulders above other 2B. Now, how did he compare to all players? Arguably the second best behind Pujols.

I hate how baseball can sometimes put so much weight on those last 5-8 years of a player's career, the time when their peak is long past but they are still able bodied enough to just accumulate. Chase Utley is a HoFer in my book -- if he could have stayed healthy, even a first balloter, but he didn't. Look at the statistical peak years relative to their leagues, look at the injuries, and Chase Utley is Eric Lindros without the animosity directed his way. A just world has both making their Hall of Fames.

- Mononoke

There is so much more to Utley as a player, than just statistics. So much of what he brought to the game and the team, can't be measured statistically. All of that should be taken into account when looking at Utley as a player. If the H of F voting process is based on statistics, there is something seriously wrong with the process.

After back reading:

It's YAY OR NAY people.
Utley gets in the HOF. He's borderline, but he gets there.
Lol at Rinaldo
Ostriches do not bury their heads in sand, MJL. It has never been documented. That's a myth.
