I think it's more a matter of being at the "cool spot," in this town. The hardcore fans will always be there but the last several thousand is filled by people looking for a fun night out.
These people don't really know or care about hockey but want to see a celebration/party. A losing streak kinda dampens the mood and those people will just move on to the next party. - RealityChecker
Probably. It doesn't help that sometimes the only way to tell the difference between downtown Vancouver and a preteen's birthday party is that one has more alchohol. I absolutely hate going downtown. |

I like to think so. My 850 sq foot condo says otherwise. - CubanBuffet

I listened to Linden today and he explained the plan much better than Benning did and explained the thought process behind some of the moves made. Personally, I think Benning should be seen but not heard from. Linden is a much better public speaker and can handle talking to the media and just let Benning do his job as GM. |

Funny, I found the opposite. I didn't hear the entire two hours, but I thought that Linden sounded like a politician.
With his limited vocabulary I'm not sure that Benning is capable of rhetoric. Like it or not, what he says is most likely pretty close to what he is thinking. I know he gets ripped for it, but I'm not going to lie, I like the way he talks. I find it refreshing. It's not all polished plastic. |

It drives me nuts, I'd rather hear a polished political answer that makes sense then inane rambling that's refreshingly truthful. It makes him sound like he doesn't know what he's doing when he clearly does. He's not a public speaker, let him do GM things and let Linden speak to the media and people will be happier. |

Most people. Not me. I'll take the truth, even if I don't like what that truth is, over - how would Vantel put it - a highly polished turd.
I do agree that it would be easier if he was a competent public speaker. If Benning was a better salesman we might not be the joke of the league right now, but who cares? It's the summer. Most teams that win the offseason are pretty bad at actual hockey.
I'm no genius, but I'm smart enough to realize that vocabulary and intelligence are not the same thing. |

why are you emphasizing "YOUR"? do you think i am the only one that thinks benning is running your team to the ground?
there is a reason why the original post i replied to stated that "virtually everyone is writing off the Canucks this ensuing hockey season". it's literally because virtually everyone thinks benning made horrible moves.
if benning was leafs gm and he made those moves there is no way you would say he isn't failing at his job. it's just sad that you cant be unbiased. there are a few good nucks fans here in these threads but they always seem to be overwhelmed by the ones who think benning can do no wrong. - sensnucksnocups
The nature of a sports fan is to be biased. The concept is clearly defined by the word "fan". Do you expect to come in here and have a rational conversation with someone when you're bashing the team we support? Especially after a season when the team did better than expected?
Unfortunately for you, the fans aren't gonna be on your side until the team actually poops the bed. This is a possibility, but just one of them. Right now, we're waiting for them to play the games. Save your comments on the certainty of this teams fate until after the games are played, because right now it is not certain. |

So I listened to Linden's interview yesterday in its entirety, for those hoping the Canucks "tank", it ain't happening as long as he's in charge. As long as the Sedins and the other quality players they have are around, a complete sell-off of assets isn't in the cards. He seems to be annoyed with the suggestion. |

Yup - they need to continue to draft and develop the players they pick while playing an entertaining brand of hockey like they did last year. |

From the 2011 Cup finals team and the 2012 Presidents Cup team - Daniel, Henrik, Burrows, Higgins, Edler, Tanev & Hamhuis remain...everyone else is new. |

Agreed - if they end up with a top five pick due to aging/lack of talent/poor drafting & developing, that's the only way you're gonna see it. Or...they get lucky like Edmonton has and win the lottery a couple times.
This should be an interesting year in terms of seeing how things play out over the 82 game schedule. |

He said the fans say they want that but it's extremely unlikely they'll support the team in the 7-8-9-10 years it takes to recover from that process.
That's what I heard anyways... |

Yeah the female doging has got to a new level in this town. What do these fans want? do they want Gillis back? do they want Nonis back?
