I could see improving the PK to where it should be, adding 10 points to their season total.

It definitely cost them at least half that -- even the games where they wound up splitting two points that they they should've had were an abomination

Precisely and Hextall absolutely made the right decision.
- five4fighting10

I would have been happy if he dealt away more pieces. I understand he didn't want to completely throw in the towel at the deadline, and I also feel pretty confident that Hextall hates losing. But if he wanted to, he could easily shorten the process by dealing future assets for veterans that would help in the short term, or clear cap room by tossing in a 1st rounder or prospect to get rid of Lecavalier.

But he isn't thinking that way, because he knows it's not easy to sustain a good team that way

They were 10-20-11 on the road. Lots of room to gain points there, and the road PK was atrocious.

It's such a fine line -- it's just really difficult. I don't ever want them to tank, and I will never root for them to lose. It's just hard. Last season...I thought they could've made it.

But at the same time, I can understand why others see it differently, because they were flawed and the bigger the move, the more costly it would've been

Just really tough to swallow -- two top-12 scorers, a Top 5 PP, a Top 5-7 goaltender...(frank) (frank) (frank)

I bet Streit and Luke are gone at the deadline. Possibly Brayden in the offseason

I think the odds of each of those three things happening are very high, simply because there is a salary cap and in Streit's case, if you are not in a playoff spot or close to one at the TDL, and he is playing well, he does deserve to go to a contender

Obviously, a lot is going to depend on where the Flyers are in the standings. It would be hard to trade Streit if the team is solidly in the playoff hunt.

I want to make some names that no one else in the world uses that can rival "Shutdown Seanie."

Brayden Schenn - Breakdown Schenn
Andrew MacDonald - Ain't He a Dong Hold (more of a homonym)
Scott Laughton - Scum Bought Tin (again, more of a homonym)
Luke Schenn - Boat Anchor Boy
Vinny Lecavalier - Vinny Lehesucks

- jmatchett383

your schenn names are quite kidney busting humorous

Ok. What if g or Jake go down for any extended period of time.

There were things that went right for them last year

They would have needed everything to go right last year to make it-good health, breakout year by at least one of Schenn or Couturier offensively, better play than they got from some big salaried guys up front and on the blueline...and they didn't get it.

This season will again require a lot to go right. They're improved, but enough to be in the playoffs? Not sure.

Yes there was, there always is. If one of those players, or even Mason goes down for an extended period, the Flyers would be screwed.
Which brings me to another point, which is a lot of things can happen in an NHL season, good and bad. Which is why it's hard to sit and predict what's going to happen. Like I said earlier, Columbus this time last year, was going to be a top team in the 13/14 season. It didn't happen.

The Flyers didn't need everything to go right to make the playoffs last season, that's a rarity in the NHL. They definitely needed a few more things to go right last season, though.

I'm not the one who constantly complains about people talking about other posters instead of hockey, who then goes on to do the same when it suits him.

Spencer Watson scores (2nd of camp) ... nice pass from Josh Ho-Sang, who is listed as Canada's 13th forward tonight
