Bonino isn't the type of Back-check EVER.

Similar to Kessel.

- classic321

Never said anything about Bonino; Don't know where you are getting that from. Sounds like your are a little insecure about your newly signed Canuck.

Just pointing out that Sutter is not they type of player (net front presenece) you are asserting he is. He never played that role for the Penguins and I doubt his 6'3", 190 lbs frame is suited for it.

My idea of lousy weather is 110f for three months on end. The temp in my car when I get in it, is about 145f (62.7 C) A lot of rain, fog and slush would do me some good at this point, totally.
And snowboarding sounds good, but I just started a company. I'm thinking two to three grand USD is about what I can spend, so will probably drive to Whistler for the view, but board rentals, etc is out.

Fair enough. Vancouver is nice always when it's not raining. Hopefully you get a bit of sun as the drive to whistler is spectacular on a clear day.

That one should look pretty good 6 years from now.
- BINGO!

To be fair, he has jumped from 19 points (2013), to 26 (2014), last year to 33 (2015). Four game winning goals, and a lower shot % than his first year. Trending in the right direction I'd say. If we can get two 40+ point seasons out of him (provided his numbers are on the rise) that'd be ok; but I suspect both Prust & Sutter were added based on the (theirs & ours) postseason, not on the reg.

He is not that soft. Watch a few of his games. If he could somehow pack on 10 pounds of muscle it would do wonders.

I was saying I believe he will score 25.

You have also been flagged for having such a strange obsession with Sutter.

Talking point production, not size or style.

Sutter might improve his underwhelming offensive 5-on-5 numbers and poor possession stats with better wingers (Burrows, Hansen, etc) but he's not an offensive talent, that much is clear. And for a defensive center his shutdown ability isn't noteworthy either.

And committing 5 years to the guy...

To be clear I don't see this as a team-destroying move or anything, but we're in the dog days of summer here so nothing else to discuss. That this deal is the latest in what's becoming a disturbing trend of questionable deal-making and talent assessment by Benning is what has me irked.

This was mentioned on a previous thread:

Who would you rather have as your 2/3 line center's: Bonino and Richardson or Sutter and Horvat.

Personally I would take Sutter and Horvat all day.

Strange question, given Horvat should be in both scenarios.

True. What else can we debate?!

I'm just not buying the fancy stats on this one. He had 21 goals playing with arguably the worst 3rd line wingers in the league. He has some offensive talent. And his wings faired better when they weren't with him? No s*it, they rode shotgun with Malkin or Crosby. If he plays with Vrbata, Burrows or Hansen I suspect he has a breakout year.

Horvat was behind both Richardson and Bonino for most of last year.

So he wasn't getting 2nd or 3rd line minutes last year. This year I expect Horvat to get more minutes with better linemates and along with Sutter I expect that duo down the middle to perform better then Richardson and Bonino did last year.

For everyone freaking out about what a disaster this team is, I actually think they look better (up front anyways) then last years team.

Sutter isn't the type to play in front of the net; more likely to float around the perimeter on the PP and look for a soft spot for a shot or pass.

Why would he bust his ass with the plumbers he was given to work with in PIT?

Even if you DO believe Brandon Sutter can/will be a 20+ goalscorer for your club, there is absolutely no reason to sign him to this extension right now.

If he fits in well and produces, making hundreds of people eat their words, then give him his raise. Good on him. But to give him a big raise on a long term deal without him having played a single shift for your club is just a bad idea.

Nothing about his 7 years in the league suggests he is a long term fit on a good team. There is no reason to take a risk this size right now when you have an entire year to extend him if he fits.

Who's a 25 goal scoring UFA?

Because all I see is a 26 year old guy who hit 20 goals twice in 7 years.

(frank) me, the guy only got 26 POINTS two years ago.

Most people believe Sutter and Bonino are more or less a wash, the point of debate is whether 1.9 for Bonino or 4.375 is a better for the club moving forward.

And whether Sutter at that higher salary is more worthwhile than Bonino depth D and a higher pick. I like Sutter and think he will be a better player for us than Bonino was but that doesn't make the trade or the contract easy to swallow.

I agree. He did nothing to justify his salary last year but be an average PKer. I'd gladly take bonino and fehr for the same price as sutter. Hell I'd just take fehr over sutter

Perhaps Sutters agent told the team they wouldn't negotiate mid season? Who knows. They clearly didn't want to lose him for nothing. I'm sure everyone would prefer a 2-3 year contract but the. We would probably have to throw in a NMC. I never want this organization to offer another no trade clause. It's the reason we are screwed right now

Most common linemates last year were:
Downie
Spaling
Bennett
Comeau
Kunitz
Malkin
Hornqvist

He spent over 100 minutes of ice time with every one of those guys.

138 minutes with Malkin. Call that 200 shifts.

Your obsession with Sutter is so beyond creepy and weird. You're know into your 2nd week in here. Please seek the help you need and let us get back to fighting amongst ourselves. We have enough conflict within our extended family in here without you coming in and giving some of us the heebeejeebees. I'm sure our excellent blogger is losing hits by the day as your relentless stalking is driving many regular posters away. For the love of humanity, please go away.
