Bear with me; I'm not sure of his D-partner and I honestly don't really care what that Corsi number is as long as it's not out in some extreme.
My BIG take away is that he wasn't playing the toughest competition. He was playing bottom 6 players and was making a majority of his starts in the O-zone.
So that likely means 1 of 2 things:
1- his coach did not think he was a best choose for a shut down D-man and decided to play him against lesser talented opposing lines all the while preferring him starts in the O-zone.
2- his coach was incorrect and he is better than thought and he could have handled the more talented players.
I tend to think option 1 is more likely. But, I could be wrong.
--------------
All in all, I think there is a rude awakening for anyone that thinks we can plop anyone into the "top pairing" with Chara or even the middle pairing with Seidenberg.
Everyone likes to guess that Trotman or Irwin or C. Miller or Morrow can handle top 4 and even top 2 time. (And with all these super awesome hockey expert scout types we have TWO of these guys that have not even been seen playing.)
The reality I'm trying to point out is TWO FOLD.
One, they are all ROOKIES (Irwin seems like the S.J. Version of Bart the journeyman),
Two, NONE of them have played against "elite" talent yet.
But, if everyone wants to assume two of the half dozen "question marks" will become the next Johnny Boychuck and the "improved version" of Dougie Hamilton then great! Can't wait to buy a new Sweeter! - JIwasinskiJr
Someone will have to be tossed on one of the top two pairings at some point. No matter how you look at it, Sweeney will be rolling the dice somewhere on D.
Edit: Personally, I think this overhaul is like rolling a 1000 sided die and hoping you get a number 10 or less.
On a side note, want to buy my martin jones B's jersey? |

That Sax is so going to get the "milk crate" treatment this season.
The German better watch his ass this season...........I could see Rask shanking him. Rask has those "crazy eyes."

I don't think anyone is saying Irwin is a shutdown D. I think he is the Offensive, first pass out of the D zone D we need paired with Seids who is the #2 Shutdown D.

This season has the feel of the "Major League" of hockey to me.
We need a "wild thing" Vince Vaughn type though...........hmm? |

Can we put an Indian hat on Rinaldo and a big pair of glasses? Might be the only way I could stand seeing him play |

We will see. Definitely are missing "first pass" and skating D-men that can be a relief valve in the D-zone.
We have gone through "top four" D-men, Ference, Boychuck and Hamilton, like Seguin goes through a Cosco box of condoms.
Maybe this year will be the year we find and stay with a couple new ones. (Young top four D-men, not condoms.). |

Well if he is going to get a 20 game suspension he might as well end Subban's career. He is more likely to run into Malcolmb Subban in practice though. |

Ugh.........and then whining and conspiracy to murder charges would be heard from the highest mountain tops.
If he were to end Subbans career the Canadians would probably declare war against the United States...........
And since we are Boston fans we would therefore commence "operation human shield." |
