I don't see your logic here in this comparison.
But, hey, have it your way!!!
By the way, he did get fleeced in the trade for Lehner.

- Sabresfan88

Really? He gave up a late 1st round pick when they already drafted Jack Eichel for a potential #1 goalie. Wow. What a robbery. You have no idea if he got fleeced or not. If in two years Lehner has washed out and is no longer on the team you will be right, but he could very well end up being their starter for years to come.

And this is why Murray made the trade and he said as much. Lehner's age fits into the time line better. Is there a guarantee that he will be that guy? No. But He knows a hell of a lot more about Lehner than any of us do.

Besides, I happen to remember plenty of people around here saying years ago that they wanted to try and get Lehner from Ottawa. Has he struggled recently? Sure, but most of the Ottawa goalies have been streaky over the past few years. I think it's more indicative of the team in front of them and not just their own play.

Sorry Garth didn't call the ROR deal before I did and Garth was back and fourth if the Sabres were going to get him.
- SABRES 89

Nobody is bashing you, but dude the ROR deal was not real tough to see coming and now you run around these boards like you're Murray's door man.

Why I was saying lehner is the guy murray should target a couple weeks before draft. Lack and talbot will be on wrong side of 30 when we will be going deep into our playoff runs. Odds are if we traded 31 for lehner everyone would be happy. 21 would of just went to Colorado for oreilly then.

Best trade partner is prob still minny. Lot of young defenseman need for a 3rd line center. I know some in organization were very disappointed when they traded larsonn. If franson didn't mind playing on the left I wouldn't mind him. Give him a higher salary one year deal see if he can play LD
- Fattony1187

Minny is looking for a center?
Granlund, Kouvu, Coyle
I know Coyle didn't have the best season last year, but unless they're looking to get younger & perhaps dump Koivu's salary, I don't see how taking back Larsson for one of their young defensemen is much help
It certainly wouldn't make them better NOW
And after losing to the Hawks 2 straight years, I'm assuming that's their goal

I don't know what we could give them now that makes their top9 better
Maybe at deadline time if they have some injuries?

Franson is worth a shot I'd say...
As long as it's not a crazy deal for like 5yrs, 5mil per

Murray said he believe Lehner can be a top 5 goalie in the NHL

that's why he targeted and overpaid for him

Yeah, just saw that, along with Cullen's take:

Scott Cullen ‏
Scott Cullen retweeted Eric Stephens

A good player, but he's 30. What are the odds that he's still this good when he's 34-37?

Eric Stephens @icemancometh
Kesler's new deal is huge. Six years, $41.25 million. ($6.875M AAV).

EDIT: And now Dreger:

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger 56s57 seconds ago
$6.875 aav for Kesler. No move clause in first 5 yrs. limited no trade in final year of extension.

Risky being he doesn't have the best injury history. He'll be 37 when that deal expires.

Makes the oreilly deal look better. 6 years younger. That contract will be really bad last two years.

We're already currently really weak at RW for this year. Don't really want to trade the 1 guy that's played well there and should be in the top 6. As it is, he's not even a natural RWer. We currently have 1 on the roster that is a natural RW and it's Gionta.

Says you? Seriously, it's an opinion, and it's fine if that's yours but you're acting like it's a fact and it's not. I just think it's way to early to be saying that since the guy hasn't even played 1 game in a Sabres uniform yet.
- HonkFortheGoose

Let me put it another way...
If we gave up a 5th for him, wouldn't u say it was a steal?
Or would u still have to wait to see how he played here?

I like to reserve my judgment on a trade until after the return gets some playing time. That said, a 5th round pick is fairly irrelevant either way. I'd also be very concerned that there's more to the deal if that's all the gave up knowing that 5th rounders are a huge crap shoot. I would probably assume there's something about the player that we don't know about that will probably rear it's ugly head at some point.

No one wants to admit it!!
It was an overpayment.
That is all.
Now, I hope it was an overpayment that works, otherwise, oh well.......

Sure...
But then we wouldn't have had to give the AVs as much
I'd guess Compher is still here if we give them 21 instead of 31

Look...
I'm NOT bashing Lehner, or even saying it was a bad trade
Just an overpayment
I really don't think there's much debating that point
I know WHY it happened, I know Murray loves the guy, etc etc
None of that means he didn't overpay though
I don't even care all that much
Just backing up another poster who said it

And for the record,
I didn't want Lack, Talbot or any Flames goalie either... Or any of the junk we had last year (unless they were coming in as backups)

Hahaha
Thanks...
Burns is too ok for me to move Ennis

Murray still has time to build this team
We aren't competing for the Cup now, so I don't need him to rush to fill these defensive holes
Esp when we don't know what we have yet in Lenher

Well we obv see things differently

What if we have up TWO 1sts for Lehner?
Or Girgensons + a 1st?
You still aren't gonna say that's an overpayment BC u haven't seen Lehner play HERE yet?

I'm not judging whether or not it was a GOOD TRADE
We will wait and see on that
However, at the TIME...
Giving up a 1st in a deep draft for a young struggling goalie with injury concerns is absolutely an overpayment
Whether or not he works out doesn't change that IMO

I like that Murray is going after guys he really wants
In this particular case,
Reminds me of how "we" would say Darcy overvalued his players
