This was a fantastic deal. This now gives us the money to resign Oduya (since Dal is eating some of the contract) and Daley will now slide into our #5. That is as good of a top 5 as we have had since 2010.

Garbutt is a beast at what he does. He and Roussel made up the 2nd best 4th line in hockey (right behind the islanders). Think an andrew shaw type game with more speed and a bit more touch. He brings exactly what this team needs. MOre snarl but still fitting in with the style of play. Grit, snarl, bit of a scoring touch and blazing speed.

Losing johns is fine. He will be good, but hes not nearly as good as Pokka. ANyone who thinks otherwise, clearly has no grasp on prospects. This was all in all a fantastic deal for the hawks.

This is $1.7M in savings after the salary retention… Lots more changes to make. Either Oduya is gone (which seems unfair to him), or Daley is getting flipped… I assume that Ehrhoff might also be signed as a #5.

Bc dal is eating a portion of the salary....
- Bhawks35

They're eating part of Gorbut's salary - half of that would be $900,000.

No pick but hawks got a speedy winger who hits (could more than replace bicks) at 50% retained and a top 4 defenseman for someone no one thought he could unload. Sucks they lose johns but jj has said that some prospects may have to be packaged.

Frees up $2.5MM. $6.7 leaving (5.9 for Sharp, 800K for Johns), $4.2 coming in.

Not a fan of this trade, all I can think of is that Stan didn't think Johns could stay healthy.....

Bowman won't rule in or out of bringing Oduya back.

It stinks we had to give up Johns but I'm relieved first domino is out of the way. We still have to give Kruger a contract, and with Garbutt coming here im worried my boy Shaw is going to be traded

You do realize that Bickell is actually a better player than Garbutt? Mull that over. FFS. Shaw is better. And not by a little either.

@MarkLazerus: Bowman says it's less of a cap move and "more of an old-fashioned hockey trade."
