Thank you - so there should be some movement by wed Thursday 15-16
An end might be in sight - MTL1
Hopefully, but no guarantee. Leddy wasn't at the convention, but wasn't traded until just prior to the start of the season.
But it will be interesting to see who is absent. |

Rick Nash 2.0? - stljam
I'll take that as a big NO? lol |

please make it soon StanBo...the suspense is driving everyone bonkers....Also nobody responded to my HOCKEY question earlier...
Does Steven Stamkos deserve to be the highest paid player in the NHL? That is his reported asking price...thoughts? - EnzoD
If they assume the cap will go up, Stamkos will get 11+. If not, 10.7 makes sense due to inflation and the Canadian economy. Either way, he's gonna put a decent hurting on the Tampa cap 2-3 years down the road. |

Max Pacioretty out at least 12 weeks with a knee injury. - furso27
That's not good. Looks like he'll miss the start of the season if he's down 3 months.
Seems like the Habs could use some depth at forward. |

Watch out. He might become a goalie - stljam
jam. NO and I mean HELL NO. My oldest son is a goalie and one is enough. The youngest has the "moves" to play goalie and he played a few games in goal during his squirt time (he did as well as my #1), but those days are over now that he is moving to his respective peewee level.
The weird thing is my youngest has a better temperament to play goalie (he's relaxed, things on the ice don't bother him, he forgets easily) while the oldest can be very emotional and insanely aggressive. My oldest played "inline hockey" as a skater and routinely is top guy in PIMs. I coached a travel inline team last year and had to suspend him one game because he was so out of control on the rink. I imagine if he skated out in ice still he'd be one of our most hated players by the other team. And other than one major penalty my youngest got for a check as a first year squirt he usually only gets 3 or 4 penalties a year. I think he had only 3 penalties all of last year. |

That's a huge loss and I hate to see one of the best American-born players to go down with an offseason injury....Get well soon Max!
I wonder how this will impact Sharp to the Habs trade discussions.... |

Philco hasn't popped in here in a while... - Dannyboy
Phil wasn't here much during the cup run either. I seem to recall him mentioning a new job? Made hangin' online problematic?
Could be wrong...but I thought it was something along those lines. |

In my experience, when a person starts speaking in metaphors and riddles, neglecting to address the points made by others, it's almost always an act of sophistry, meant to deflect from the fact that they cannot argue their way out of the situation using plain language and direct address. It also reeks of arrogance, implying that that person is so far ahead intellectually that you simply cannot understand their verbosity and complex thought.
I don't fall prey to those things and I speak plainly.
When you use a standard of measure, it tells you where you stand within certain constraints. Johnny Oduya is way richer than the homeless man I saw last night on the street. Johnny Oduya is exceptionally poor compared to Carlos Slim (since you're in Mexico, it's a propos). But Johnny Oduya is neither homeless nor a business giant. Johnny Oduya is a hockey player, and we measure his salary based on what other NHL players are paid. And in this case, he is relatively average or even below average when it comes to career compensation for a player of his experience, talent, and, yes, value.
And for the record, don't ever try to pull someone from quicksand by hand, or you'll end up falling in too. - Sandus
Do you think your net worth is higher than his? If so, I tip my cap. If not, don't you think it's kind of silly to say he's poor by anyone's standard expect the extremely wealthy 99.9%
Because . . based on his career earnings . . . endorsements and appearances (and yes, I'm CERTAIN that in Sweden at the very least, he has some deals . . . investments . . . tax strategies (MOST sports representation is not a couple of guys in a Winnebago, Michael Peca's agent and Alan Eagleson) . . .
Johnny Oduya probably never needs to worry about money.

Well if sure seems like salaries are continuing to rise, but with the cap looking rather stagnant something will need to give....
...recipe for future labor issues.
Owners can't resist paying more and more for talent, but simultaneously insist of "cost certainty"...
...can't have it both ways. |

The big money beer, I think it was Molson, endorsement deal begins this year for the NHL, so that should impact the cap in a positive way. |

Why are so many concerned with Johnny Oduya's financial health?

Not much of a cloud when the Cup is paraded around. We all know that somehow, some way they will be cap compliant by the start of the season.

Palat, Johnson, Kucherov, Hedman all need raises within the next 2 summers....I would NOT pay a one-dimensional player like Stamokos 10.7mil. That's just me. I know he is (arguably) the best goal scorer besides Ovi in the NHL. I just dont see enough on a shift by shift basis to give him that much money. But, he is the face of the franchise and an exceptional talent. He will be paid 10.7mil by someone, the question is whether its Tampa or Toronto.... |

I think that's probably pretty fair to say. And I applaud him for (hopefully) sticking to his principles and being willing to leave a significant sum of money on the table in order to stay with the team. Assuming he manages his money correctly, his family won't want for anything. But the difference in value of what he's expected to sign for and what he could've signed for is enough to buy at least a whole house, a car, and a college education for his children.
I'm just saying that there are a lot of players out there who have made or are making more money than him, despite not being as good, because open market value rewards you for changing teams. |

Stamkos is not one dimensional. He plays both ends of the ice. Kills penalties. Takes the body. He is a great player and he can be on my team any day. |
