No one pays AHL players $575,000 to play in the AHL per year on a 2 yr deal, if it happens it is a mistake....Not the recipe in the NHL no matter if it is the Maple Leafs or the Panthers....Or the Blackhawks.

Kyle Baun will earn $70,000 playing in Rockford. That's the way business is done in the NHL. Young AHL players are getting paid to go to school...and they seldom make over $90,000 per year.

- Al

Maybe the one-way part was a mistake, sure, but you can't argue with the results of signing him to that deal. How many Hobey finalists or top level college free agents or international players have chosen Chicago in the wake of that deal? You could even argue that Raanta and Panarin and Tikhonov are a result of the Hawks' willingness to throw money at any player they can find and see what sticks.

No, not earned...but it can be lost or forfeited!

About respect… The common use of the word nowadays irks me. It' often used in a context that makes it akin to common courtesy or good manners or general decency… Yet it is very different!

I respect your right to speak your mind. I may not respect the ideas or beliefs you put forth. In fact, I may think you're a gosh darned moron, but if you make good, logical arguments that are not to my liking, I will at least agree to disagree. Those good, logical arguments will even earn my respect.

The board was doing just fine till Tr--ls( cant use the word per Eli) FlyersHockey and Nurk decided to take over. I know that many complaints have been sent to the referee who is monitoring, it's Capt ? about these two guys. hopefully soon they will be history

No.

This thread was doing fine prior to the game 7 OT loss to the kings. Shortly after, Eli got appointed as ref of the thread and everything has been downhill ever since.

The things people get banned for and the posts that get deleted were things that Eli himself spear-headed at one point. Whether it was (frank)in around with other teams fans, or bullpooping about stuff besides hockey.

Somewhere along the line JJ's skin grew real thin too, and he couldn't take any criticism anymore either. I know I'll be getting banned for this so maybe someone can copy and paste and re-post in a little bit haha. Hockeybuzz shouldn't be a corporate atmosphere where everyone has to play nice and be PC. As long as no one is being attacked viciously then theres no reason for deletions or bans.

If you read my comment I said mistakes happen but....Paying LeBlanc or others like him a $1,150,000 or so to play two years in Rockford can't keep happening. They paid him like he was a can't miss NHL lock....Mistake.
- Al

Perhaps Wirtz sees that as the cost of doing business… Sign Hobey Baker winners, sign hot NCAA prospects (Paliotta - recently traded), etc…

You know what they say! "No press is bad press!"

LMAO Steve. He didn't want any numbers below 20.

His hockey numbers have been 19 (my choice), then 21 for a long time, 29 last year, and has to change his number this year because he made a team with a #29 goalie (we're in Pittsburgh so you can see why) who has seniority in the club over him. So he went to 26, no reason, no player he likes wears it, he's just weird that way.

So, if he has made around $25 Million over his career, he doesn't have anywhere near $15-20 Million banked.

Taxes will take around half of his earnings.

Then expenses and likely some big ones, such as a house, a couple nice cars, etc.

Just sayin.

- carcus

Probably made more than $15-25 million due to endorsements/appearances/investments.

MOST players also have tax sheltering strategies.

Once more, Johnny Oduya is probably a wealthier man than 99% of Americans or people on this board and doesn't have to worry about money the rest of his life.

no one is debating this, although 99% might be high.

pulling more numbers out of thin air with the 15-25 mil in endoresements and investments, or do you have any sort of background info on that?

I feel like this entire "Oduya's Net Worth" debate is inconsequential. If he's blown it all it doesnt matter in regards to the Blackhawks as long as he wants to take less money to stay in Chicago. That is the point. JJ, I know you pointed to this weekend as a possible Sharp trade timeframe. Safe to say Sharpie will be dealt before the convention? Also, Kuc tweeted Montreal not a big player on Sharp..any sources refuting that tweet from Kuc? Thank you!

Asked and answered.

JJ is just fine. He is pretty fair and objective with everyone unless a line is crossed. Don't blame him for getting mad about the unwarranted hot garbage thrown his way by some posters.

US was a treat. He made his own bed with his wonderful comments.

Surprised Elbows got thrown in the sin bin. How long is he out?

i agree. its his decision if he likes chicago enough to stay for much less than what he could get on the open market. good for him. a lot of people wouldnt do that. the blogger is using his career earnings (on and off ice) as a major reason for his doing so, which is pure speculation.
