Interesting comments from Stars' president Jim Lites from an interview on local sports radio I caught at lunchtime.

They were talking about John Klingberg's contract with Dallas, which he thought was a great deal for both sides. Stars get cost certainty, Klingberg will make $30M and still be under 30 when the contract expires. Which brought up the subject of Brandon Saad. Lites was "surprised" by the Saad trade and thought the contract he got with Columbus was "a reach." And, "we'll see how he likes playing in Columbus."

Just interesting to hear an impartial take from another league exec.

Interesting too that he'd be willing to make a public comment about it.

Your WORDS and their intent are pathetic, and exactly what the mass media teaches you to do...don't think for yourself just randomly repeat talking points from "respected" members of the media like Bill O'Reilly, who used to speak out against Capitalism until such time he was paid more to change his thoughts!

I was a hockey player! We are grown boys playing a game for ridiculous amounts of money...we are the modern day equivalent of the Gladiator...nothing more! It's just a game and life is far more important than just games!

I do NOT believe in "ISMs", I think for myself. I believe in the brilliance of human beings (including YOU) when they learn to take control of their own minds and I believe in the Earth. And I am not "mad" nor angry with you, I only encourage you to open your eyes and your mind to the bigger picture that is life. As Frank Zappa said, "a mind is like a parachute, to work it has to be open."!

- MexicoHawk

Might I respectfully ask why his response was "pathetic" and only a by-product of "mass media" regurgitation? Is it because he doesn't subscribe to your opinion? What he wrote is a respected economic theory that has be espoused for decades. You may disagree with it, as is your right, but to disparage an opposing view so disrespectfully does not reflect your belief in "the brilliance of human beings (including YOU) when they learn to take control of their own minds" as it appears you only believe they take control when they agree with you.

He is probably just steaming about the excellent return StanBo got for Saader....He was hoping this type of salary-dump move would hurt the Hawks...some could argue it made them a deeper/better team...TBD....

You know I like MexicoHawk more and more every time I read one of his posts. Not sure if he's gonna wear that as a badge of honor though.

Totally agree, I think since he's joined this board he's been awesome. As far as I know he is the only ex NHL player that is on our board. Take a look at his avatar, it is a true picture of him when he played

To be fair tho...i understand he is on the outside looking in and impartial in that sense. But he is also a business owner and he clearly wants to keep player salaries as low as possible leaguewide, so in that sense he isn't really impartial.

I think maybe you're trying to make more out of it than what's there. It was just an off the cuff comment that came up in a radio interview. I'm sure when he called in to the show he didn't expect Brandon Saad's name to come up. The cap is there, and it's there for all teams, what should he care about the terms of one player's contract on another team in the other conference? To me it was just the guy speaking his mind....
