Sorry, there is no defence to this attempted argument. Athletes are ridiculously paid in a world of MASS INEQUALITY! Think about it, the finest teachers and scientific researchers make in a year what Oduya makes in a month...something is wrong with any society

The first part is supply and demand. When we start putting kids on TV and have them compete, sign sponsors and have a rabbit fan following, teachers will get paid as much as coaches. (Oh that's college football)

that is "okay" with that because there are VAST consequences of such inequality, such as perpetual violence! Inequality is the #1 cause of crime and violent crime!

So you're a communist? And communism will solve the "#1 cause of crime"?

Athletes are paid what they are paid because of their value to the businesses and individuals who pay them. To scoff at the "MASS INEQUALITY!" of highly paid athletes is to denigrate what they do and what their value is in a capitalist market. If a person's value is $20 million, and they can fairly negotiate and receive that $20 million, you are saying they should take less than that $20 million for the good of society and more equality in the world. Is that what you're saying?

one of this writers major reasons for oduya taking less money with this hawks is the fact that hes a "wealthy" guy and then assumes 15-20 mil banked. its a pretty big issue.

Regardless of what the writer thinks,
Do u think Oduya is wealthy?
I do, bc he's made millions, regardless of what is net gross.

by hockey standards and being a driving reason to take less money, not a chance.

the same analogy applies. i dont know what you do, but would you keep working if your boss came to you and said hey bruh, i know you are a big part of our t eam, but i need to you take about 60% of your market value?

It works for South Park. and if the shoe fits... you and your boy certainly have the obsessive qualities. Wow! That really struck a nerve for you. Someone else make the same comparison? Therapist or local law enforcement? Sorry, should have assumed after the 4th or 5th day.

You do every day, Its called go get a better job. You have a choice to stay in your current position or make a choice to leave for something else. Why do you stay and take less? work environment, home life, Hours , constancy. What ever your fancy.

Athletes who take less than their market value tend to endear themselves to fans. We will accept their slumps and mistakes.
Those who are paid handsomely to the point where team player recruitment is affected will always be placed under the microscope (as with Bickell). If the play of Kane or Toews does not meet high standards early into their new contracts, expect a lot of howling from Hawk fans.

I see ur point but u cant compare the working man to an athlete. one is doing a job, and the other is getting paid for what he loves.

But, I do recall when the economy was putrid in NY, people I know took a paycut instead of being laid-off, so at least they had an income coming in.

JJ, why do you even respond to these yahoos going on about whether or not Johnny O is a wealthy guy. Your point is sound and your tidbits on the what is happening this offseason are always a good read. Keep the information flowing.

Then I would say your not getting 60% less than your market value. You are getting your market value.

If your not happy doing what your doing and are getting paid below your market value then shame on you if you're not looking for another opportunity.

Curious here how everyone would re-rank the top 10 “prospects” given some of the new additions?

My guess:
1. Dano
2. Panarin
3. Pokka
4. Johns
5. Schmaltz
6. Danault
7. Knott
8. McNeill
9. Hartman
10. Gustaffson

- Bjm84

This is the thing with ranking prospects, under which set of criteria? The most likely to make the NHL, the most talent? If we are talking about the "most likely" to make the Hawks, then it would start with Panarin because Dano isn't a prospect, he's a top 6 forward for us, likely a winger on the top line. Then Johns, Danault and Hartman. These are the players that are fighting hard to make the Hawks out of camp. Pokka should be a HUGE part of the Hawks success moving forward, but likely not until next year. This is a make or break year for McNeil...he MUST force himself onto the NHL roster with his play at some point this season or he will be gone. Schmaltz is only 50/50 at this point...which is why going hard after College and INT FAs makes so much sense! Garret Ross should be on that list as well, as he could play responsibly for the Hawks right now!

i dont think hextall would move schenn in a deal for sharp. moving 23 for 33 isnt really his MO, especially since sharp wouldnt be a missing piece for a cup run. schenn cap hit is 2.5 and hes RFA after next year.
- flyershockey

Thanks, you are right with the age difference, probably would have to be another plum coming back your way if Schenn was to come this way, althoughHexy got a nice big Peach from SB on the return for Kimmo.

So far, I have chosen to stay in my current job and make less than I could at other jobs. There are lots of reasons to do this many of which are personal, most of which are qualitative and subjective. Of course, I may change my mind tomorrow or next week and look to find other employment that will pay me more. Maybe I will be able to find another job that will pay me more like the other's I turned down, maybe not.

Maybe JO will be able to find another offer better than the Sabres offer if the Hawks can't clear the cap room, or maybe not.

The scale is different in these questions but the principals are often similar.
