Strength and conditioning coach Mike Kadar is leaving the Penguins to take the same post with the Detroit Red Wings. - nh4442
What? He might be getting a pretty good raise. Sucks to lose him. |

Not so sure about that. I hope he brings his performance record with him and DET can't stay healthy for the next 6 years (not that they've been good in that department themselves). |

Would you sign the formar teammates Glencross and Stempniak for $1.5M each?
I think they'd look good on our bottom lines. Good depth. - Barnaby36
As it stands they can only afford one of those guys. I admit I liked Stempy when he was here. GlenX seems to have injury issues. He'd fit right in. |

Each? No way. With Kunitz and Dupuis still on the books and playing in bottom 6 rolls potentially we neither need or can afford to add contracts like that especially when we have ELCs from WBS ready to take fourth line duties. Would Glencross-Santorelli-Stempniak be a better fourth line than Wilson-Sundqvist-Rust? Absolutely, but we just can't afford it. There's a middle ground in which we bring in one vet to add to the fourth line that I think is very feasible and cheap enough and reasonable. Id like a fourth line next season of Sundqvist-Santorelli-Rust |

I wouldn't mind Stemp. I actually had wished they kept him when he was with the pens. |

Glencross supposedly was a better more valuable player than Stempniak but I don't know if it stands. |

Question: how much AAV and how much term would Scottie Upshall be looking for? The more top 9 able players we can add the better for Rutherford's four scoring lines model. Plotnikov-Subdqvist-Upshall could make for a solid line. |

How has he looked the last year or so? I have really lost track of him. I wanted the Pens to kick the tires a few years ago though. |

He's been kind of injured and not lighting up the scoreboards but he's been wasting away on a terrible Florida Panthars team over the last few years. I don't think they'll keep him around now that they're actually half decent. |

Yeah the defense of the abysmal supporting cast by dragging he big contracts through the mud is something that I can't respect. First of all, compare the top 6s.
Kunitz-Crosby-Hornqvist
Perron-Malkin-Comeau
Vs
Saad-Toews-Hossa
Sharp-Richards-Kane
First of all, despite our top two stars being better than their top two stars, their top 6 is much much harder to shut down. For us all you have to focus on is taking Crosby and Malkin out of the game. For the Hawks you have to worry about whole lines. Then, in the event that the top 6 gets shut down, they've got Teravainan-Vermette-Shaw as support while we've got Spaling-Sutter-Bennett or whatever carousel we've got going on the flanks of Sutter. Their third line can bail the top six out of they get shut down which makes shutting down the top 6 that much harder cus you gotta worry about secondary scoring. Our third line can't do that. - Victoro311
Hawks are going to find out what it will be like to pay their stars top dollar. now they are paying toews and kane 10.5 million each. they need to resign seabrook next year. Keith is signed at a very fair 5.5 million but they are committing a lot of money to few players much like the penguins. |

Interesting to see Kadar leave to go to DET. Word is that Rutherford and Co. has spent much of the offseason evaluating whether their strength and conditioning programs has helped lead to some of their injury concerns. Results must not have favored Kadar because I'm sure it's pretty irregular for a guy like him to move to another team. |

They both seem like Kuni/Dupes/Winnik/Comeau type players. Stemp was really vanilla here. Pens need to move away from that. Its not likely though. |

This is the first thing I though of when I saw the news. Very weird to see him pack his bags and bolt to DET for no reason. |

It might very well be random. But the fact remains that his performance record has not be good. Changing things up to hopefully improve results is something I am 100% in favor of. |

I am having a hard time seeing which injuries could be attributed to him especially or to his training program. I guess injuries aren't everything of a strength and conditioning coach but still. |

i mean if he worked them too hard and didnt get them sufficient recovery time for their muscles, that could lead to injury.
i think a lot of it is bad luck but it might make sense to change it up. |
