No. But I was glad to see his sorry ass leave town.

We'll be sorry when we are bottom of the league this year in goal scoring.

We won't have anyone top 50 in scoring this year, let alone top 10 like Kessel was a few times.

Soft and out of shape, yes. Defensively terrible, yes. But there are ways good teams use those types of players.

I don't know and neither does anyone else know if this was a good trade, but the skill level of the team just went down big time. I guess that's the plan, I get it, but like Sundin we will miss the elite talent that was Kessel for years.

well yes, see, that right there is the problem. Leafs are not a good team, and have not been for quite a long time. Not much point having 1 elite player. And how exactly will we miss him? Leafs have been bottom 10 (and that's generous) all but 1 year that Kessel was here.

Kessel was 47th last season. JVR was 59th, with Kessel.

definitely is not a guarantee

I get it but I don't think he was the problem.

I think Bozak as #1 centre is a problem.
I see Dion as #1 dman as a problem.
I see Bernier being average at best as a problem.
I see Gardiner's defense as a problem.
I see Kadri talking about how great he is and not showing it as a problem.
Lupul disappearing, bad coaching etc.

So we are collecting lots of assets and hope that some of them turn out to be good players is the plan. I hope it works . All I am saying is finding elite world class players like Kessel is very hard to do, so trading one away is very risky.

right... my point is, given all of those things, the Leafs have very little use for a player like Kessel. And won't for several years. By the time they do have a use for him, he will be on the downside of his career.

Understood and in a way I agree. All I am saying is we'll be very lucky to find a guy with his level of skill again.

Maybe Marner or Nylander, nobody else in the system is likely to be that good.

that was a train wreck, to be around 50th you need 60 points and I think JVR gets 60 points

If Marner ever can score as much as Kessel (that 30g 65-80p range) that will be a great success.

I bet that you'll get better defensive numbers from Marner, as well.

That brings back memories of the comment...."The Leafs will sign Phaneuf, whether you like it or not."

Man we had some fun with that one.
