Anyone wanna bet that with the Leafs top 5 pick (assuming that's where they pick), they take Matthew Tkachuk? 5'11, playing for the Knights this year?
- BoTtLePoLiCe

If it's 4/5 I'd agree, but not top 3!

Only in leaf land.

My point is using the argument that he led the team in ice time in game 7 isn't a good idea considering how they lost that game.
- Pecafan Fan

he said game 6 and 7, they won game 6

He is not better than phaneuf.
If you can't get this from watching games, you can as well look at the stats just posted

MccCabe was like Phil Kessel. Criminally underrated in Toronto and crapped on for no reason.
- RogerRoeper

I didn't mind him, but his in front coverage was a joke, cost 2 games against Philly in 2004. Much like Dion in game 7...

Here was the actual reason Leafs Nation turned on McCabe:

I can't remember whether it was his wife or child (IIRC, wife) who had medical issues.

McCabe told MLSEL management that he loved the Leafs, but he simply couldn't sign any new contract until they got a more clear picture on what the medical condition was going to be, moving forward.

JFJ, being the moron that he was, just kept on upping the offer.

So when McCabe was in a position to sign, he simply put his name on the paper, which had a helluva lot of money on it.

Not really his fault that JFJ overpaid.

But this is Toronto. We hate guys who make money.

Plus his on ice performance completely dropped off. He was bad.... Real bad

Anyone can be. We pretty much only have 3rd 4th liners and a couple of 2nd liners

Here's the thing that ALWAYS drove me crazy about the fuss over McCabe's contract. You know how everyone thought 5.75 million per was "Insane" and the "Worst Contract Ever"? The EXACT same week McCabe got a 5 year 5.75 million per deal, The Phoenix Coyotees gave Ed Jovanovski a 5 year deal for 6.5 million per. Jovanovski has worse stats in EVERY category. (Points/Goals/+/-, Health).

Typical double-standard involving the Leafs and a contract.

Random thoughts which would need to be worked into this scenario if we did infact sign Franson again would be:

1. We need to trade away Dion and his big'ol cap hit which won't be easy especially since the Leafs cannot take the route of retaining anymore salary

2. Whats Franson asking for? When he was here he always held out for more money and I don't see him being a cheap signing given the value of D these days

3. Dion has potential to become a better player under Babs, he plays the tough minutes again the leagues toughest competition he isn't all bad

Even if you could trade Dion and sign Franson we would only be marginally better from cap perspective and I still don't believe we would be any better from a defensive perspective

He asked for 4x4 after the playoff year, they gave it to Gards...

Oh my! Big difference!

If Jovo got rag-dolled, we would never even know it happened.

Is it a double standard if a guy thinks both deals were bad?...

He had an incredible season. Him getting 750k less per than an inferior D-Man is not an issue.

Everything is overhyped on the Leafs compared to everywhere else. And that is a great example.

Well, no you wouldn't, because Hockey Canada invited Phaneuf to the summer training camp. So, in fact, he was considered for the 2014 Team Canada Olympic Team.

Oh Miksey, you fell into my trap.

I'm an evil genius. You need to be more careful.

- Atomic Wedgie

He was considered until they saw him play and then Bob Nicholson and Steve Y were like 1967 LOLZ!!!!!!!!!!!
