Well no he's not (he's not signed).... But that not withstanding, he's not better than Dion.
- burn

He has shown flashes. When he has been given more opportunity he has played better than he did before. When he and Dion were paired together when the team actually cared, Franson was better, and his first pass out of the zone was a big reason Dion had a better first half then he's had with the Leafs. Less time in their own zone...

Sounds plausible.

Except (frank)tardesson is a European Skater.

- BetterCallSaul

Also I heard he has hands like woman that works at a Thai pleasure parlor.

So he should be able to keep the locker room happy.

Doesn't come up for me - a bunch of blank white boxes, and if you hit the X it goes to stats about Nick Leddy.

Simple. Dion goes to Nashville...he's playing regular minutes on that team...probably pretty big minutes on either of the top 2 pairings.
- Woderwick

Whats regular minutes? He'd likely play around 20, which is what Franson did in the playoffs, maybe a touch under...

Trying going to any non-Leafs thread and suggest that Cody Franson should have been considered for the 2014 Team Canada Olympic team.

I double-dog dare you.

(Well, not you, Wodsie - but you get my drift).

He is better than phaneuf.
If you can't get this from watching games, you can as well look at the stats just posted.

When you say that Cody Franson played around 20 minutes in the playoffs for Nashville, did you mean to type that he played around 14:36, 6th amongst defencemen for the Predators?

He is McCabe part 2... Great at certain things, but his biggest flaw is he just doesn't know how/lacks the will to cover his man in front. It's been years now of watching him wave his stick and guys get tap ins....

MccCabe was like Phil Kessel. Criminally underrated in Toronto and crapped on for no reason.

Franson is better, look at the impact on their linemates stats I'm going to repost
- twiztedmike

Random thoughts which would need to be worked into this scenario if we did infact sign Franson again would be:

1. We need to trade away Dion and his big'ol cap hit which won't be easy especially since the Leafs cannot take the route of retaining anymore salary

2. Whats Franson asking for? When he was here he always held out for more money and I don't see him being a cheap signing given the value of D these days

3. Dion has potential to become a better player under Babs, he plays the tough minutes again the leagues toughest competition he isn't all bad

Even if you could trade Dion and sign Franson we would only be marginally better from cap perspective and I still don't believe we would be any better from a defensive perspective

Here was the actual reason Leafs Nation turned on McCabe:

I can't remember whether it was his wife or child (IIRC, wife) who had medical issues.

McCabe told MLSEL management that he loved the Leafs, but he simply couldn't sign any new contract until they got a more clear picture on what the medical condition was going to be, moving forward.

JFJ, being the moron that he was, just kept on upping the offer.

So when McCabe was in a position to sign, he simply put his name on the paper, which had a helluva lot of money on it.

Not really his fault that JFJ overpaid.

But this is Toronto. We hate guys who make money.

Well, no you wouldn't, because Hockey Canada invited Phaneuf to the summer training camp. So, in fact, he was considered for the 2014 Team Canada Olympic Team.

Oh Miksey, you fell into my trap.

I'm an evil genius. You need to be more careful.

Anyone wanna bet that with the Leafs top 5 pick (assuming that's where they pick), they take Matthew Tkachuk? 5'11, playing for the Knights this year?

How does one argue with someone who says McDavid is the next Daigle. Comparing 1993 to 2015 is moronic in and of itself.

Sure, but to be fair, where would Dion legit be on Nashville's depth chart?... Weber, Josi, Jones, all ahead, even Ellis might sweep Dion to the 3rd pair, but he's lucky if he's 4th on the team. Also have to consider, he nor Franson would play top PP minutes either, so Dion's offence would be down much like Franson's was...
