If I recall my elementary learning correctly, .53 > .43...... and that would put your comment about Franson scoring more in the wrong.

Franson was completely exposed as soon as he started getting 2nd line competition and above.

I don't think you take it away from him. It hasn't gone well when others have done it (ie sjs)

From what Babcock has said, he think Dion is much better than the media and fans seem to think. Said he needs more help. Compared to the likes of the hawks with Keith. Keith has lots of help, if he has a bad game no one really notices because others there to pick him up, Dion doesn't have that.

I think the damage is done.

It was argued in this thread recently.

Guys that "don't make a difference either way" dont deserve big money long term deals.

He made little difference on Nashville playing the SC champs on a team with huge depth at the position. Who knows, if they had given him a little more leeway, he might have contributed more. On the Leafs he's a decent d man that will help out the PP, so for TO, he makes a difference. He also seems to have a good attitude and I think he might be good with the young guys, I don't think it's a coincidence he played a lot with Gardner and Reilly as they entered the league. I wouldn't give him more than 4 years, maybe 5 million at most...

All advanced stats indicate Phaneuf is bad

He's just not as bad as everyone makes him out to be

So one team already has 6 better D on the ice, yet he is Toronto's #1 or 2 in your eyes.

That's so sad. Man this team sucks.

He is McCabe part 2... Great at certain things, but his biggest flaw is he just doesn't know how/lacks the will to cover his man in front. It's been years now of watching him wave his stick and guys get tap ins....

Hey, people want to argue about whether or not Dion is a true #1, it's fine. It's a legit question mark.

People want to debate whether or not Dion is worth the salary he is paid, go ahead. Everyone's opinion is welcome.

People want to state that Cody Franking Franson is better than Phaneuf? Sorry, I draw the line there. That's just stupid.

7 years, 6.8 mil. You had to trade Dougie to make sure you had room.

With this draft being winger heavy I think i'd prefer a stud D. You cannot pass on Matthews however.
- steve362

This I agree with, and didn't Dubas say at the forward position they're pleased with the additions, however on D they're still looking to significantly improve.

He is at this moment and yes it is sad. There are also other factors, it's not always an easy transition to a new system and coach, team mates and such. If they sign him, I would be looking 2-3 years from now having him as a second pair PP guy that would get squeezed out of the line up by a younger player by year 4 or 5...

And who's is better? They have the same pts/60 since Franson became a leaf, but Dion gets less ozone starts and tougher competition.

On no Franson isn't close to being better defensively

He's going to have to make more room and give him 7 at 8 million a year.

In order to do that we'll have to trade Bergeron for a first and two seconds, finish in last, get the first overall pick, and go off the board and draft (frank)y (frank)tardesson the 48th ranked NA skater who plays on the fourth line but shows some great speed and promise.

Well no he's not (he's not signed).... But that not withstanding, he's not better than Dion.

Franson is better, look at the impact on their linemates stats I'm going to repost

The GA is scary but I think thats more because he was mis-paired with a like-minded offense-first defenseman

Franson compared with other defensemen:
http://public.tableau.com...GR8G32?:display_count=yes

Dion's:
http://public.tableau.com...PTXZ6X?:display_count=yes

Note impact on linemate's corsi

Dion's is negative, Franson's is generally positive. Franson gets bottom pairing minutes yet top pairing points.

Sounds plausible.

Except (frank)tardesson is a European Skater.

Simple. Dion goes to Nashville...he's playing regular minutes on that team...probably pretty big minutes on either of the top 2 pairings.
