AA needs to go...either that or stop taking lessons from leafs management
- I-own_da-Northwest

Everyone in that organization needs to go, except for Donaldson... Get rid of the bats and rebuild the rotation and bullpen. Seriously, if you want to win in MLB, get a great rotation and a decent bullpen and you'll go far. Pitching > Offense especially in late August/September/Playoffs.

Sedins aren't being traded. They are retiring as Canucks.

I predict we are a playoff fringe team again next season and we keep our UFAs to compete. It'll be close, like it was this year. Ideally, we have another stand out rookie or 2 and Horvat continues to develop and impress. If he's the 2nd line centre by year end and we have another rookie playing meaningful 3rd line minutes, we'll be in good shape.

Markstrom is a huge question mark. If he can be the goalie of the future, then we have the luxury of dropping Miller. If not, Miller has proven to be a capable goalie who can win games (when healthy).

Nothing about our roster screams high pick to me. We're middling our way forward. Ideally we can get those kids in shape to take over and maybe steal a trade or free agent along the way.

health is key.
easy to see a scenario where with injuries (to Miller, top 6 fwds or one of our 3 key Dman) it could lead us to spiral out of any playoff picture.

and no one thinks the Sedins are going anywhere this year. The discussion was around the season with their expiring contracts.

YA. I'm a 1a 1b baseball fan. I watch the blue jays all season in hopes they make the playoffs. When they don't I watch my 1b the cardinals win

Encarnion and Navarro would be my choices to go. Need to upgrade over Richardey. I also had a very strange idea. The 5th spot in the rotion when IT comes up goes to whoever is in line to Pitch in Buffalo. All of theirs og pitchers come up and pitch a good game. They don't seem to pitch very well in the second game though.

Sedin Sedin Baertschi
Cassels Bonino Vrbata
Dorsett Horvat Vey
Hansen Prust Virtanen

Rip away.

- thundachunk

Sedin Sedin Burrows
Higgins Bonino Vrbata
? Horvat Hansen
Dorsett ? Prust

Baertchi will most likely slot in the thrid line so that leaves one spot open.

Virtanen or Cassels...

Possibly but with deep roots in Van they may not want to leave. They have Olympic Gold for Sweden that might be good enough for them.

Hamhuis won't waive during the season with a young family to get traded as a rental. Vrbata will be on the team as long as their in playoff contention, he could very well just end up walking for zero return, like he did with Arizona. The next round of asset management will be interesting.

if i was hamhuis i wouldn't waive either, unless it was as a rental and i would keep signing one year deals with the Nux who trade me at the deadline every year for a shot at the cup... same as how keith kachook was doing it back in the day...

I think Benning and the Canucks organization has tremendous respect for the Sedins and will do whatever they can, without jeopardizing the future to give the Sedins 1 last shot at the cup.
The reluctance of trading away picks for rentals says that Benning has an eye for the future and keeping the pending ufa is trying to give the team a shot.
I feel this year is a throwaway year and I can see Benning clearing out salary on expiring deals and clearing cap space. I feel JB will have a really active UFA and Draft acquiring assets that will give us the best chance to win now. If unsuccessful the Sedins will have an option in their final year to give it another shot or go to a contending team. IMHO this year is the rebuild year. I personally think even if Canucks fail to make the playoffs the next 3 years the Sedins will not ask to be traded. And in all honesty I will be fine with that.

Agreed, I can't stand how every MLB game on TV is a Blue Jays game. I wish it was easier to get Mariner games on TV on a consistent basis out west. Hell one of my channels give me more White Sox games over the course of a month than Seattle games all year

How about trading rentals for picks? Or do you go into the playoffs against ANA with them on the roster, with the mindset, "its playoffs, anything can happen"?

I think trading rentals for picks will happen this year. There is no GM in the league would have traded away pending ufa's last year. It is easy to look at it hindsight and say what he should have done but think from a Management perspective.
1. The team was on an uptrend from the year before.
2. We were on track to crack 100 points after finishing the year before with 80 points and 6th worst in the entire league.
3. We were trending to match up against either Calgary or Blues and both teams Canucks have owned in the season and prior seasons.
4. Full management and coaching with the chance of making the playoffs trades away roster players that are pivotal to the success of the team for picks.
5. The fans had started to show their displeasure and the team needed a success story.
I could go on and on... but the point is that Benning came in cold to a whole new conference and had a chance to make the playoffs and gambled. Too bad it did not payoff. I wonder if everyone here would be singing the same tune if Mathias and Richardson had a Belesky type playoffs but we still lost in the first round.

I think last year he used the "trade with yourself" rationale. He had a few rental-type players and kept them and kept his picks to give them the best chance at the post season. I dont see him keeping guys this year (unless everyone extremely overachieves ) as our pending UFA's are much more valuable than last year

Thanks for stopping by and telling us exactly what you think and then leaving and not discussing with anyone. Pretty sad that they made you a referee when all you do is dictate, come in every blue moon and ban people for having fun discussions.

Id love to know your occupation, because from my point of view you are in search of a power trip and use this referee status as your fill.
