On the stated goals posts, I don't think they mean much. I don't expect Benning and Linden to say that the team is re-building after a 101 point season. If the team is way out of it this year, I wouldn't be surprised if they admit it is a re-build.

I think if you have to eat salary you're taking a bit of a step backwards. I understand that sometimes it's impossible to make a deal without retaining a portion of the player's salary but I just feel it's counter-intuitive to making the best deal available. If I'm Benning, I stay away from any deal involving this type of dynamic. I feel if you're a good manager, with good negotiating skills, you aren't going to need to sweeten the pot with salary retention. If that type of offer is proposed or on the table, I walk away.
Frankly, there haven't been that many trades (in the grand scheme of things) which have involved any significant type of salary retaining specifics. Of course, that was before the reality of the fairly static cap figure and the restrictions it puts on any sort of trade/deals. I'm sure we'll probably see more of these types of deals. But again, I hope it's not going to be Benning - Zogg
If you are out of the playoffs at tdl on the last year of the Sedin's contract and they waive ntc's to go to a contender and you are getting 2 1st round picks and maybe a player or two or more. I'd have no issue with eating 50%
Boston is eating a 2.75mil of Lucic's salary for the whole year. Not sure what the Sedins would be at tdl prorated. but if you have room and the team isn't making the playoffs...
FA's good for it if we can get 2 more 1st rounders plus...
and if that was the Sedin's swan song, you resign them the following year to a 1 day contract and they retire Canucks.

If the team is truly planning or expecting to not making the playoffs, I hope they trade the Sedins asap.
It is one thing to say, the Sedins are great and we want them to retire as Canucks, but if they aren't even really going to try to make the playoffs, it is a disservice to the Sedins and the org by keeping them around.
A real, all in sort of rebuild would mean moving your older, best assets and try to maximize their return before it diminishes. Get the prospects coming back into your farm system and developing asap so the rebuild doesn't drag on forever. sign some cheap free agents at the time to fill holes if the prospects aren't ready.
But I could be wrong, maybe the Sedins are worth more at tdl on expiring contracts compared to having 3 contract years remaining?
Maybe the Leafs are the model for this since moving Kessel?

I'm sure the Sedins know the score. I don't think they want to move and they are under no illusions that this team can compete for a cup. May cost Canucks the possibility of more prospects, but they won't go. Should Detroit move Datsyuk or Zetterberg for the same reason? No matter how good that team has been in keeping in the hunt, they aren't going to win a cup for the rest of those guys' careers.

What I fear is Sbisa needs a baby sitter, a reliable guy like Hamhuis, but you have a young gunner like Subban, he really needs to be alongside a vet like Hamhuis... (it sounded like Subban is a little selfish from the 3on3 reports, Hamhuis might be able to help a little ). Maybe Sbisa with Bart, but that would be more minutes for Subban.
It would certainly mean a shakeup, but that would leave Clendening, Weber, and Corrado in the press box. Kenins and Grenier might be in there too...

Crackhead. Be real please. Fantasies are for the bedroom.
Sedin Sedin Baertschi
Cassels Bonino Vrbata
Dorsett Horvat Vey
Hansen Prust Virtanen
Rip away. - thundachunk
Prust doesn't play Center. Bart is a left wing. Vey would even beat out cassels for 2nd LW. Where has higgins and burrows gone? I want to say you put the names from left to right in alphabetical order but even that isn't right.
