I hear you and hope that they are both traded for a good return, but I certainly don't expect it.
I wouldn't be surprised if Hamhuis is resigned, like it or not this team has very little coming down the pipeline in terms of defense. Hamhuis if healthy would garner a great return at the TDL.....but I thought that many former Canucks should of gotten a better haul so until it happens I will assume it will be underwhelming. - belcherbd
This seems realistic, definitely would be better at the TDL.
So far I'm a bit underwhelmed with some of the stuff JB is saying in the media. |

He can go - manvanfan
Something back would be nice. Too much of the addition by subtraction stuff can leave too many holes. He has some value even if it is just to sweeten another potential deal. |

When else is he going to sign them? - pker2theend
Benning means before July 1st(re-siging and signing(ufa) are different). He mentioned talking to their agents.

I wonder if JB has spoken to their agents? Could these guys do what Bieksa did - talk extension with the new club before waiving to go there? Complicate any plan JB may have?
If they won't be back, I want picks. Just want it handled properly.
When is JB going to trade Jensen for a pick? - hillbillydeluxe
See above.

I think mgmt has a plan.
If the plan was to resign one or both of Hammer/Vrbata, i think that would have been done by now.
I think this suggests that both won't be resigned.
My point was that i hope they are convinced to accept trades (due to No trade clauses) and we get a good return. The alt being they walk or have their rights traded for peanuts. - dbot
I read the interview. Try it.

Who else have we had on expiring contracts that have the skill/quality of Hammer/Vrbata??
especially keeping in mind the likely position the team will be in come TDL time?
I can't think of anyone else? But could be wrong. Naslund??
i'm just saying that it seems like the first time in a long time that we have quality assets that we could likely be in a position to acquire some draft picks |

That's the part of the interview you suggested i read? I thought there was more.
I saw that part and it lead me to the conclusion that they won't be resigned.
Could that lil chat not also be to gauge their interest in waiving NTC should the team be out of playoff position? |

iirc, Jovanoski just walked after his expired.
Can't remember what happened to Ohlund, if he was hurt or just walked at the time. I think Salo just walked.
We haven't had a lot of skill leave because we held onto the core... and never had much to begin with. |

Right. Cheers.
Jovo was 2006. Long time ago
Ohlund and Salo were banged up and had tones of mileage on them.
so, it's been awhile since we've had some quality players to offload. |

He asked if hey had spoken to the agents... I know it's hard to follow a multi post thread... I'm trying my best to walk you kids through it but you keep walking into walls while you text and take selfies. Try and pay attention.
 - boonerbuck
I had just said in an earlier post JB just says whatever to smooth stuff over.
'we’ll see how it plays out' is akin to - we have a plan, feck off if you think I'm going to tell you what it is. Watch and wait.
If the media doesn't think you are a cup contender in July, no need to give them fodder to pick apart.
I am hoping for more change, but I think we are at least headed in the right direction.
I should say, I have a smart phone or windows phone, but don't have a data plan. Just use it mostly as a phone, a little as a camera, to play crib if I am waiting somewhere or bored and to surf the web- wifi while bbqing.
Wifey has the data plan. and addiction to facebook, and she can have it. |

If the Sedins get replaced as the 1st line they will become untradable. You are aware we are going for a rebuild? - A_SteamingLombardi
How come you cant trade a player that doesnt play on the first line? Maybe in a couple years they wouldnt bring back as much in the trade but to say two former mvps wouldnt get anything is just stupid. |

I'm not sure how second line means they aren't mentoring? Dorsett was credited for helping Horvat and Kenins and he was a 4th liner. Mentoring would be all off-ice behavior, if Virtanen looks across the room at 35 year old Daniel Sedin and how hard he works to be a 2nd line winger in the NHL, JV knows whats expected of him. The alternative is someone from the room not being able to step in to tell the young guys to take it easy going to the bar after every game - WhiteLie
This exactly. The kid would have to seriously stupid not respect a former MVP. I hope we trade them but if they want to stay im fine with that. They have been probably the 2 most dominant players in frachise history they have the right do what they want. |

Who cares? On a rebuilding team your cap will be much lower than a team going for it.
I misunderstood, do you mean cus they will be making 7 mill each on the 2nd line? We can pick up 50 % salary if need be. Now is the time to retain salary and take on toxic contracts if it will get us better prospects or higher picks.
Good way to speed up the rebuild. |
