Who have the Sedins mentored anyways? Raymond? Kesler? Hansen? I can't think of any current young player?

Edit: It didn't work with Kassian

- A_SteamingLombardi

It is not like guys want to train with the Sedins or hang around them.

Did we have any young players? Did they bring any baggage? Did the Sedins corrupt any young players that came in without any baggage?

are you just having some fun?

I really doubt Shink makes it, he is still waiver ineligible and still needs a lot of improvement before he is able to make the jump.

Grenier, Kennins and Jones are the only realistic options coming out of camp IMO.

It would be a mistake to rush JV as well, he might get 9 games especially if there is an injury but I think the roster is essentially set.

Sedin Sedin Vrbata
Bae Bonino Burrows
Higgins Horvat Hansen
Prust Vey Dorsett

Kennins/Grenier/Jones as the 13th forward.

If Vey struggles or we lose a C to injury Jones has a chance otherwise Kennins will likely be the 13th forward IMO. Grenier might force himself into the line up but I think they will try to sneak him back through waivers and call him up later in the season possibly.

A lot will depend on what happens in camp. If Virtanen looks good, he probably gets at least nine games and they probably stretch that out over a month by playing him in games where he has a better chance for success. Jones is probably Utica bound as doubtful anyone grabs him on waivers. If Grenier has good camp, maybe they give him a shot from the start.

When Henrik and Daniel Sedin ran circles around him at training-camp testing in 2013 and topped the fitness charts, Horvat was humbled. He was taking power-skating instruction for years, but had to get to another level.

“I thought I was fit and then you see them,” Horvat said of the Sedins. “It was an eye-opener. This past summer was huge for me. The Canucks put me on a good program to get more explosive. I had to do a lot of Olympic lifts for the core, legs and quads and I feel great.

Yep.

I think Jones was signed for Utica.

I hope Grenier stays with the big club but that will likely mean we have to move a winger or dman or both because we have 8 dmen penciled in too.

As JB said, if any of the prospects earn a spot, the club will make room for them. Easier said than done.

Was Shink at this camp? Haven't heard anything about him lately.
- we_are_all_canucks

No Shink - he would not have been invited as he is already playing pro and would have attended last year. The main purpose the camp is the off ice learning on what it takes to be a pro and how to manage yourself and your life.

Shink had some beauty goals in Utica last year. Wonder what he needs to make the big club?

yeah.

Maybe your definition is more hands on? I don't know.

here is a definition for mentor, advise or train (someone, especially a younger colleague).

Maybe the Sedins aren't outspoken enough to be mentors in your eyes? Don't want to put words in your mouth.

Maybe my perception of them as being helpful, approachable, having a wealth of experience might not be who they are in the room. They might not actually be good communicators or something?

I am not in the room or know them personally, so I may be wrong. On defence, I would be sad to see Hamhuis gone because he seems to lead to, but doesn't appear outspoken. But that may just be the public perception too.

Just don't want to go through what the Oilers went through. Youth just left to fend for themselves.

Exactly. All of those good young players in Edmonton have gotten used to losing. What a waste of talent.

Yzerman was always considered a great leader not because he was the loudest in the dressing room, but because he worked the hardest. That's how I think the Sedin's lead in the Canuck dressing room and at practice and in the off-season. That's also why we got a guy like Prust for Kassian.

I see that as more of a Horvat thing than the Sedins. The Sedins didn't tell him he needed to be a stronger skater, he saw the way they skated and made that decision on his own with the help of the Canucks. To me that isn't mentoring, they didn't work with him personally.

All of those players you mentioned were mentored by the Sedins among many others.

They are highly regarded internationally and throughout the league and have been and continue to be great for the Canucks and Vancouver, if you can't see that you are not paying attention.

I agree Jones is utica bound unless like I said there is an injury to a C or Vey absolutely poops the bed.

I don't think you will see Benning move any more vets just to bring in Virtanen or Grenier. Grenier will likely pass through waivers and he will get a chance later in the season and from everything I have seen and heard about Virtanen, he needs to become an elite player in Juniors before he makes the NHL. Give him time....
