I'm one of the longest running members here and have had more blow outs than most... never banned... never warned.

Just curious, when you are out on the lake or what have you, get a chance to talk to the other guys fishin'... how many tie their own flies?

Just curious.

Worked with a guy that covered a dispatcher/panel control sort of job on the waterfront and saw him one weekend at work and he brought in his own gear and was putting some together. Was a slow day but it looked very zen.

Dave bolland 5.5 a year for a third line Center. I remember when he signed and a bunch of guys thought it was a "good deal" for him.

I can barely remember just going through the cupboard and thinking savoury and look, curry powder, mmmmmh. I have forgotten the curry powder and it is still good, but I think the curry powder is what makes it great. Liberal sprinklings of everything you like.

Not sure where you are at Cuban, but I live in Richmond and make the drive over to the Marine Drive Superstore in Vancouver. $16 dollars to fill. In Richmond, hard to find propane, Husky is charging $22 to fill.

I'm in Willingdon Heights. Just ran to a Husky where they have a tank exchange. It cost me thirty bones, but what are you going to do?

I don't know the areas well enough but how much further is the superstore of a drive then the husky?

I see where you're going with this. I have an uncle who will burn $20 in gas to save a buck on something. He says it's the principle...

I fish a lot of high profile trophy lakes that draw the experienced fishermen mostly. I'm pretty sure there are some that don't but most tie their own. For many of them, it gets in the way of success but it's a stubborn rule most have... never fish any bug but your own.

My father doesnt tie but he is well supplied by me and my bugs are gold. Once during a hot run at Dragon, I dropped my famous Stealth Bomber in the grass at the launch. Everone saw it... I looked for it for 10 minutes but didn't find it. I'll be damned if someone grabs it, heads to their bench and starts copying and showing everyone. So I go and jump in my boat and anchor about 150m out and sure enough... there's a group of guys on their hands and knees crawling around for it. 45 min later their was still one desperate fisherman wearing his knees out.

I get on these 3 week runs on Dragon where I'm hooking one after another for 4 hours straight... over 30-40 fish and get surrounded by 20 boats inching in on me daily. It's priceless. These guys drive all the way from Washington, California, Idaho, Colorado etc and base their strategy on following Me, Del or Rob around as we find the fish and get into production. Sometimes the 3 of us anchor together in a group and put on a show that puts these poor tourists to tears.

We got skunked on the weekend. Caught a few little ones on the first day that were too small to keep, after that, nothing.

We probably spent thirty hours on the lake. It wasn't just us though, the lake was pretty busy and no one was getting any action. Too hot I guess.

Edit: We also don't know fishing Kung fu.

Hey Lefty. I just picked up a Gloomis 10' 6wt Streamdance and a GLoomis 9' 5wt Pro x4. Big long story about a battle with their Canadian warranty department but they in the end smothered me with $1100 worth of rods and a cool hat to make good on it after I took their handling of it to a fishing forum. In less than two hours what they couldnt get straight in 3 months was generously sorted out after it hit the net.

Sometimes screaming and crying on the internet works. That Streamdance is one hell of a stick. Huge upgrade on the rod they replaced.

Oh hell ya. The smaller lakes are done for a while. The big deep lakes even are tough. Need downriggers etc right now...

I know how to catch them in lakes this heat but I just don't go after them. It is common for the avid catch and release fly fishermen to leave the fish alone during the hot season. The fish have a lower survival rate after a big battle and it's difficult to revive them. We start hitting the rivers where the water is cooler and the bugs are still active with hungry trout on the hunt. Or we just start going after salmon and steelhead like I just returned from. Going back up there with my spey rod in a couple of weeks.

The amount of times I had to run out to the gas station to exchange the tank.... Those bastards charged 30 bucks for what was pretty much half a tank. Out in the valley if fill it myself at a station and it was 20 bucks.

No more run out of propane mid cook...

Sounds like fun.

I worked with a couple guys that go out when they can. Have only tagged along a couple times. I have no idea what I'm doing. It is always nice just to be in the bush and out around the water, just have to be prepared. But it is more rewarding when you are catching some.

It's funny you say that. Usually when we throw one back it's gone before it hits the water, but last weekend they would float on the surface until we were sure they were dead before they took off. The biggest fish that we saw was floating dead on the lake.

$6 bucks saving... even with the price of gas, it is prolly still worth it, maybe an extra 15 or 20 minutes tacked on to the total drive time compared to Husky... can find an excuse to go into the stupid store too... Cheap drumsticks... $5.39 a kilo when you buy the bigger packs so paying $13 or $14ish for say 22 drumsticks... great on the bbq.
