I wonder if they plan to move another D, if he wants Corrado and Clendenning on the squad, is he planning to carry 8D all season? Having them sit in the pressbox isnt going to help them further develop and they cant go down without waivers - WhiteLie
Corrado
Clendenning

All will be expected to provide results. |

With his size he only had 16 pims he plays less physical than women's hockey. There obviously was no interest in him at TDL. He's a wussy and now a Leaf, perfect fit. - A_SteamingLombardi
Just find it amusing that he had a career year and yet walks without an offer.
But, yeah, not very physical, not consistent. I guess it is the same reason why Kassian was dealt. |

Yeah I know the mandate, but they didnt really open a spot for the young guys on the backend, the Bieksa dump was supposed to free a young player spot but they filled it in FA
We got:
Edler, Tanev, Hamhuis, Weber, Sbisa returning and you can slot Bartkowski in Bieksa's spot.
More to your point to not expect the D to be any different, 5 of 6 are returning from last year |

Be better if they were not waiver eligible. I'm all for trading Edler it does leave a big hole in the top 4 though. I don't think Bartkowski is even a 4/5 guy more of a 5/6. If they could trade Edler for a player who is young and on the cusp of being a top 4 with no room for them. I was hoping for David Savard from Columbus but he had a great season last year. |

Make room for the lads. Set them up for success.
Sven Hank Burr
Daniel Bonino Vrbata
or
Burr Hank Vrbata
Daniel Bonino Sven
Or is it zero chance the Sedins will be split up? Wouldn't mind seeing it tried. Maybe Daniel will score a bit more this season? |

I think Edlers biggest return would be at TDL. |

My comment was more of a joke ...it would be such a Canucks thing to happen ...I wouldn't honestly thing he would net much ... Although if Babcock can get through to him on how to use his skill set properly then who knows |

Agreed. Don't have to trade him now just saying if he has any sort of decent season i'd like to see him gone for some assests |

Ludwig looks like he's got some nice hands. Probably should get a shot with UTica this year. Love how Jake protects the puck and drives the net. |

Trade Edler now while we can get a bunch for him. A 1st and a decent prospect I'm sure is more than fair for him. |

My only concern with TDL is spending half a season with young guys who cant get into the line-up. Although its very possible WD will have a short leash with Bart for being the new guy and Weber for being Weber |

How about Edler and Bonino and a 2nd for Galchenyuk and a 1st? |

I am happy with Briesbros, Benning has made it clear that he wants good character players. Those are the kind of guys that will work hard for each other and dont have attitude concerns. I read the other day that Demko paid his way to spend the week at camp, even though he cannot play, because he is committed to the franchise and wants to further grow his relationships with other young prospects. That kind of attitude in a player makes me feel really good about the quality of individuals this team is bringing in
Apparently under NCAA rules he had to pay his own way. |

Richardson, Kassian and Matthias was a really good line.
Injuries ruined it. - classic321
I feel the same. People are saying he was streaky but forget that his line was constantly disrupted. Thats not his fault.
On another note I dont feel WD truly knows how to utilize NHL level power forwards. Lets face it power forwards are 26+ cause they dont develop before then. Bert was a great example of that. So he has no experience utilizing players that size, age and level of developed talent.... And Both our power forwards are now gone, which is kinda suggestive.
Oddly, as much as I detest Torts Kassian had probably his best year under him than the rest.
But here's to hoping for better from WD and the cast. I seriously hope they know what theyre doing. |

Letting Matthias walk without even offering a 1 year $2mil contract seems funny. If Matthias didn`t garner any interest at last years tdl, while having a career year... why not offer a contract on the lower end of the spectrum. I think at 2 million that still would be a raise.
But hey, if he isn`t the type of guy or character guy JB wants on the team then I guess JB isn`t going to lose any sleep with him signing with the Leafs.
With Matthias, I thought I remembered a JB quote about Boston trying to acquire him from the Panthers. He has a career year and it's like, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. Maybe the Canucks jersey lessens the value of the player wearing it regardless of performance? - hillbillydeluxe
To me it's pretty clear that they wanted to open up roster spots after keeping him and hoping he could contribute in the playoffs. He wasn't in the plans past the playoffs. Other assets moved as well and they are keeping the better assets for TDL.
Sounds like Mathias was a bit disappointed that they didn't want him back.
