I think the position we are in will dictate what will happen. If we are clearly in 2nd in our division (which is unlikely) he may do something. Any other scenarios we are sellers guaranteed. - thundachunk
I hope we are definitely sellers if we are not in the playoffs at tdl.
Right now, pending ufa`s at next season`s tdl are:
Vrbata
Weber
Bartkowski
Hamhuis
Anyone think Hamhuis will extend here for 2 or 3 years with another ntc? |

I am happy with Briesbros, Benning has made it clear that he wants good character players. Those are the kind of guys that will work hard for each other and dont have attitude concerns. I read the other day that Demko paid his way to spend the week at camp, even though he cannot play, because he is committed to the franchise and wants to further grow his relationships with other young prospects. That kind of attitude in a player makes me feel really good about the quality of individuals this team is bringing in - WhiteLie
Agree 100%. Great post.

watch him score 25 and the leafs turn him into a first rounder - Redmile247
Well it's Toronto so he wont have to back check so he might get 25. |

I guess it's up to person opinion if JB has a pass or fail on his trades since the end of the season. Season ticket sales will determine his grade. I'll venture to guess they are not too brisk right now. |

I do. After his trade.

I see him potentially getting a 2nd when Toronto trades him.
He did have 3 empty net goals last year, so to me he had 15 goals. - classic321
I don't see him getting many chances for those this year |

Spot on. Vantel always needs something to critisize - vancity787
Jezus what a bunch. If you don't sit and join hands in this group and sing Kumbaya ,
everyone jumps all over you.
I said I hope he learned that if you are not extending then move the players for picks.
if anyone should know about playoff woes it should be a Canuck fan.
I WILL POINT OUT 3WINS in 4 YEARS .
Enjoy your group hug . |

Here we go again.
The sky is falling, the sky is falling! Benning didn't trade Matthias at the deadline for a 1st!! The sky is falling! Poor asset management! The sky is falling! - Marwood
I wouldn't say that is what Vantel is saying. He is just saying that decisions not made at the deadline hurt at the draft. Everyone is going to do something different. I agree with Vantel in the sense that he should have been moved for a pick at the deadline but the circumstances would have to be different for me to choose that outcome. Anyone who thinks Mathias and Richards were going to be apart of our long term plans is fooling themselves. I think Vantel would knew this and thought regardless of how well the team was doing they should be moved because they are not long term assets. Hence his opinion of poor asset management.
Sorry Vantel I'm not trying to speak for you. Correct me If I'm wrong. |

Perspective... keep it all in perspective. I could see a situation where the GM does well with the early parts of his plan and still the season ticket holders start dropping for a couple of seasons. If the moves are for the future, the fans will wait to spend their money. This does not mean that he is failing.

And yet, Edmonton, Calgary, Arizona, Colorado, Dallas, Minnesota have but 2 series wins in that same span and multiple missing the playoffs. |

Couldn't trade Richardson because he was hurt and you are assuming that they didn't try to trade Matthius, if there was any interest in Matthius he would not have taken a week to sign and would have gotten more than 1 yr. |

If we moved Mathias at the TDL, you would be upset that we gave away a big bodied goal scorer for a pick and then lost to Calgary after being pushed around. Then the lesson would have been... trading away big bodied goal scorers going into the playoffs.

So basically Shanihan, who will have 11 draft picks next year , gotten rid of his GM and overpriced players being moved. They also picked up a first round pick this year . - VANTEL
We didn't have a volatile and divided locker room that was scrutinized by the media and arguably the largest hockey fan base in the league. They have been in a losing environment for years. We haven't. Also Shanahan kept Nonuts a gave the team an opportunity to prove themselves also. They never even came close to showing they were a decent team before the deadline. |

We were pushed around with him in the line up. He doesn't use his body. He's Rick Nash but can't score. |
