I think the reason is, the media in Vancouver thanks to Burke (and Nonis to some extent) had near unlimited access to the team/coaches/players and could get all sorts of perks/tidbits/quotes from them. I think the media are pissed that the gravy train is over with. - DariusKnight
Benning and the management team have made themselves available quite frequently in the past year or so and seemed to have been fairly forthright in terms of what they are asked/discussing (something which I actually don't like! I prefer to have Benning keep his cards close to his chest"). As such, I think it will be fairly status-quo as concerns the media and players availability. Of course we'll have to wait and see. |

It's more that Burke and Nonis were really close to Gallagher and made sure the staff/coaches/players would always tell him stuff off the record. Not to mention they'd send him gifts and the like. That's what I meant about the perks and all, nowadays, there's no leaks so it pisses the media here off. |

I'm so confused by this seriously.. Learned his lesson?? 1st year president and GM in a playoff position against a lower ranked seed and they're supposed to start trading off assets?? Regardless of how it turned out you can't blame JB for sticking with what we had to see what we could do... He gave everybody a year including management to see what we had.. Easy to look back on it and say oh we should've dumped Mathias but if we had then the same vultures would be saying why would u dump a goal scorer right before the playoffs.. - MaWLz
Exactly. Some people complain no matter what happens.

I see where you're going with this. I have an uncle who will burn $20 in gas to save a buck on something. He says it's the principle… - CubanBuffet
haha yeah I was just wondering. My uncle lives in burnaby and he does the same thing. He's quite devoted to going to certain places for certain things. |

HB needs to update his team payroll pack. Says that Arizona still needs 11 players even though they are at 20 now or something. Also says van only has 18 but they have 20. |

Not sure where you are at Cuban, but I live in Richmond and make the drive over to the Marine Drive Superstore in Vancouver. $16 dollars to fill. In Richmond, hard to find propane, Husky is charging $22 to fill. - hillbillydeluxe
Don't know how it is in BC but in Toronto Costco charges $9.99 for a refill. |

Just finished watching the 3-3 tourney in Shawnigan. I'm not a pro scout but I've played hockey my entire life and spend way too much time watching and reading about it. Here's a couple thoughts on the players on the ice.
Boeser's shot is everything they say it is. Kid sniped two goals in five minutes both of them on his back leg. Super impressed. Plays with a scowl and looks determined as hell.
McCann carries himself like he's the boss out there. Looks like Corey Perry and isn't afraid to mix it up. He's going to be a great NHLer. Fired a laser of a wrist shot from the top of the circle and scored.
Zhukenov was the biggest surprise, the kid has ridiculous hands and really good wheels. He could be an absolute steal. Didn't look out of place at all.
Subban surprised me too. He has super slick hands and doesn't look like he's too small to be out there. Half of the guys on the ice were 6'3". He has great vision and pick handling skills. Legitimately looked like his older brother out there a couple times.
Hutton looks like a good all around defenceman. Mobile, confident with the puck. Reminds me a bit of Chris Tanev.
Cederholm is a beast and has much better wheels then a few people on here have made it sound.
Lastly Mackenzie Stewart really made some smart plays and looks really confident. He has great potential if he's developed properly.
Didn't get to see Jake, Cole or Demko play either and I left feeling really stoked about the future of the team. - kevingram

Good read on getting value on Hamhuis and Vrbata. My thoughts are trade them both.
http://www.vancitybuzz.co...s-and-vrbata-for-nothing/ - VanHockeyGuy
I don't care about what JB says, I care about what he does...
Never asked Bieksa to waive yet Bieksa was looking at houses in SJ... Matthias is a good player that the Bruins had targeted for awhile when JB was there... no contract offer.
JB will say whatever he thinks will keep everything cool and calm and goes about his plans methodically. (this is my hope anyway, there is a plan)
I'd rather trade them than see them walk. If Hamhuis walks at least we will have the Swiss Olympians. |

Sven, Clendenning, Corrado are UFA's and not signed per this Province article.
http://blogs.theprovince....lvr.it&utm_medium=twitter - VanHockeyGuy
Not sure if it has been changed but that article says they are RFA's and that their qualifying offers expire on july 15th. If they are not signed by then they become UFA's. |

James Mirtle @mirtle .
Matthias said his goal is to score more than 20 goals after putting up 18 with the Canucks last season.
I am curious to see if he can do it. Might get top 6 playing time with pp and pk... at least more playing time than he had in Vancouver. |

"Qualifying offers expire on July 15, but teams still hold the rights to the player. All three players will be subject to waivers and are expected to be on the Canucks roster next season." |

He was playing 4th line in Florida before they traded him.... top line minutes may not be a given even on such a bad team.

If he does, all Benning has to say is we wanted to get younger (except Prust). Matthias is 27 |

He was 3rd line here with pk. Don't really remember him seeing much if any pp. I thought Matthias should have been on the 2nd unit pp or along with others rotated through the 2nd unit pp, it was often ineffective, not sure why Higgins and a couple others were mainstays.
Just thinking if Matthias gets a bit more ice time and more pp, he might be able to get a couple more goals. |

The defense is laughable, that will cost them next season. |

Thinking of it as an investment.
If it costs the Canucks next season, they will get the return a little further down the road.
