The Hawks will give him some term to bring down the annual hit. He'll be 31 at the start of next season. My best guess is 7 years, 36.75 million = 5.25 million per. Or maybe 6 years, 35.25 million = 5.875 per.

I'd have a hard time seeing seabrook take a contract with that low a cap hit, Boychuk was at 6. That said, winning is undoubtedly more fun and he may do it so he can stay with the hawks. I'd love him on the Isles but we couldn't afford to trade the assets we'd need to for him, nor do we have the cap space to spent.

Absolutely right Sage, we would still be over the cap, no way it gets done without moving Crawford
- Canardhawk

Correct, that's why I think they're not taking 3.5 back.

The key here is that a sold-out professional stadium gets around 20,000 sets of eyes on advertisements, but a television broadcast in a metro area of 3.25 million (Phoenix) can potentially reach more than 20,000 people. For advertisers, it's all about potential reach.

Greater Toronto Area is in the neighbourhood of 5M
It comes down to Bettman actually wanting to put teams in Canada

He went ahead and did a ticket drive in Vegas before announcing expansion - I believe 11,000 deposits were collected - Vegas is now a lock if expansion goes through - how is that fair to the other cities who are now submitting bids for a team?

Off topic question...

Has anyone been to the prospect camp at Notre Dame?

I'm thinking about taking my 4 1/2 year old son there. Worth taking him to?

I'd love that trade if I was a Hawks fan.

JJ you do a great job with your blogs. Your team should be happy to have you. I'm glad the Wings have Duff, it's been nice having consistent blogs to read. You've been the model of consistency for the last couple of years.

As somebody closer to things what do you think it would take for the Wings to land Sharp?

Love it!

Leave Smith out and I'd still take it. Talk about offense. Pulkinnen is the shooter we can replace Sharp with. Panarin, Pulki, Dano... if they meet expectations... what a future.

I doubt the Hawks would have to buyout Sharp, but Bickell on the other hand ... I read somewhere that if the Hawks would buyout Bickell, it would cost $1.5M in 2015/16 and 2016/17 and $1M for the following two seasons. I don't know if that is correct, but if it is and they can do this buyout either now of before the season starts, then they have $2.5M in cap relief there.
- EbonyRaptor

The question with Bickell is you can't buyout an injured player. With none of us knowing any of the details, and with Bickell having the vertigo issue and only playing one game in the Final, it's possible a buyout is not even an option right now. Minnesota has the same problem right now with Niklas Backstrom.

John, Do you get an award for most hits to a blog? My goodness your blog reply's have been off the charts! Keep up the great work,

To the blog itself, sort of. To the thread, no award other than being able to have great discussion with you guys.

Yeah, I get that, but the GTA is already watching a whole lot of hockey. In order to expand revenue, you have to find more people to watch hockey. The places with the most potential for new hockey fans are cities where hockey is not popular already.

Oh I agree with Quebec City getting a team for sure. And if New York can support two franchises, I don't see how Toronto wouldn't be a home run for the league too (other than conference re-alignment again).
- MNHawk

The home run would be how much money the new franchise would have to pay to Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, Ltd. for territory rights.

Yep, I'm on a bunch of Hawks message boards. I've been reading here for years and finally thought I'd jump in because this one is so interactive - more like having a conversation than going back to find responses to posts from yesterday.

I believe the 7 Canadian teams account for 35% of HRR
While the other 23 make up the rest
A team placed in Quebec or another in ontario will surpass Seattle or Portland

Logical moves of phx and fla would bolster the league very quickly

- MTL1

Not at less than 80 cents on the dollar they won't. That is what i was pointing out. I have no idea but there was some mention of the CDN dropping even further.

It would have to be far more than MLSE sees as the amount they would be willing to spend to litigate it in the courts vs the NHL. And that's a lot.

Think $500 million for an expansion franchise and another $500 million or more directly to MLSE to indemnify their territorial rights. If not, the little commish is in for a battle.

I thought Al did mention this but I just found this...on Hockey's Cap.com.

https://www.hockeyscap.com/buyout_faq

Buyout Period
The buyout period begins the later of June 15 or 48 hours after the Stanley Cup Final ends. It concludes on June 30 at 5 pm EST
.

And this from General Fanager.com
http://www.generalfanager.com/buyouts

- DK002

Could be wrong, but for what its worth, i believe after JUNE 30, so long as a team or player file for arbitration it opens up buyout possibility for the player

The reality is the NYI don't have the assets to acquire Seabrook. There would have to be a bonafide top pair D prospect in any deal for Seabrook. The Islanders don't have that in their system.

Yes. We went last year and it's really cool to watch the practice games on Sunday morning.

We are going to go again this year but the hotels are already sold out in the South Bend area. Unless you want to spend $450....

You could always get a hotel in Tinley Park, IL (right off I-80) or Valparaiso or Merrilville and drive the rest of the way (if you are from out of town and flying into the area that is).

I own a small ticket and travel company that specializes in sports travel in addition to my real job. We just set up a client in a 3 star about 4 miles away from ND campus for a touch over $500 total for training camp. That's still cheaper than the prices that are advertised. We also do any away Hawks game.

This wasn't intended to be overly promotional, it's more specifically in response to your direct comment about the $450/night rooms.

Just FYI.

I think so as well but I don't think buying out anyone was on the table for Bowman...GM's do that as a last resort. No matter how much Bickell may be overpaid someone will take him although an Ice Hog may have to go along to sweeten the pot.

He could probably find a room really cheap in Gary. Hell, he might even be able to buy a whole house for less than the cost of a hotel room.

Long time Hawk fan - a little too young to remember '61 (I was 7 and living in Wisconsin), but started following in the mid-60's when we moved back to Chicago. Good ole #16 was my favorite player (Chico - not Bobby). Followed through thick and thin. Finally discovered message boards in 2009 when a buddy at work told me about them - been addicted to them ever since.
