hmmmm really i seem to recall someone coming out of that league that just recently won the conn smyth trophey - SaskHawkFan
Duncan Keith... I thnk Carey Price played in that league too....I get it but how many kids are able to get rides to a vg school like Vermont from the BCHL?
I didn't think the BCHL was a conduit to big time college programs. |

an lets not forget #2 - SaskHawkFan
There is actually a long list which includes Duncan Keith, Ryan Johansen, Mark Recchi and Paul Kariya and many more.
Not sure how it works but a kid can play in the BCHL and still be eligible for an NCAA scholarship. If the kid goes major junior he cant go to NCAA. I think Kyle Turris played all of his junior hockey in the BCHL. |

should do some research then, lots of kids play Jr A in canada and then go to NCAA schools, its always been a alternative path then Major Jr. ive seen many a pro go thru sask to get to the nhl. |

that is correct, kids that play Major jr are not eliagble for NCAA, thus the JR A route. |

For sure - although we saw the pens take in 6.75 in kessel - MTL1
We sure did and I do think the Hawks will have to throw a prospect in or eat some salary to make this work unfortunately the cost of doing business in the NHL when you're up against the cap.
Good luck on landing Sharp and your Habs

So what's the difference - Major Junior pays the kids a crappy $60/week and the NCAA views them as pros and ineligible and Jr. A pays them 0$ so they are eligible?

BCHL is not major junior but it has produced players who have turned out to be significant NHL'ers - Jamie Benn and Kyle Turris are 2 of them. - RickJ
Keith, Ladd and Lucic also spent time in the BCHL. |

Well, Liam Coughlin is from Boston and likely has many contacts in the NE...guess he wanted to attend BC or BU, so perhaps that was his "in" to a scholarship at Vermont. |

There's some great hockey played in the BCHL, I catch several Coquitlam Express games each season. |

As a fan of hockey - this situation the hawks are in is quite intriguing
I hope the next few deals for the hawks get put to bed soon and that the deals are fair for the hawks
I'm surprised that versteeg has yet to be moved for a pick at a reasonable 2.2 cap hit after watching Matthias and Hayes get 2.3M deals |

My point was I didn't think many players go from the BCHL to a major college program like Vermont and to the NHL. Keith and Kariya followed that path from the BCHL to a major college program, Turris too for 1 yr....but Carey Price, Rechi and Johanssen they didn't go to college.
My comment was specifically about going from the BCHL to a major college program and then the NHL which I still don't think is a common path.

BCHL is probably preferable for a lot of kids instead of playing in the Western Hockey League and taking those crazy long bus rides across the prairies all winter and trying to get thru high school same time. |

Hawks should try to move Bickel and Anisimov (still don't know why they traded for him) for nothing. I'm sure there are a few teams willing to take a chance on those guys. That would free up over 7 millions and that leaves plenty of room to resign Oduya and Kruger as well as some wiggle room to bring up the young guys as replacements. |

Actually I just looked it up on the BCHL website and they state that there are 257 graduates of the league playing NCAA Division 1 - all over the place. Surprised me. When it comes time to turn pro though, I figure about 5 might get a sniff in the NHL eventually. |

Cap space would be nice, but id rather the hawks remained as competitive as possible until 19/88 are retired. As long as those two are here the hawks should be doing everything they can to win championships every year. |

Probably more going to college than ever...I know there haven't been many in the past that get to the NHL that route but some good ones started there, like the few I mentioned, and did get to the NHL without going to college.
Still a very good accomplishment for a young kid to get a scholarship to program like Vermont.

That's a compliment to him but Marko Dano better get going pretty soon because Recchi played approx 1850 regular season and playoff games in the NHL. That's more than Gretzky and pretty close to Messier numbers. |

Or they can just trade Sharp and Bickell which probably is easier to do than Anisimov a new longer deal.
