He's the perfect example of performance bonuses only. |

He probably still has marketability, especially because of his age.
He could always turn that around. - puckhead17
Despite his age, Sbisa's been around for a while, so I don't think he'll just magically start to play better. Maybe if he was just coming into the league you could forgive some of his errant plays and poor play in general, but he has now been in the league since 2007 and it's highly unlikely that there is going to be any drastic improvement in his game. This is now his third team and he hasn't shown any signs of growth along the way. Yes, he can hit and he is a decent skater, but those two things are not enough to make up for his lack of hockey sense and all around decision making abilities. |

I'm a glutton for punishment. I'm not say we should sign him. I'm just curious. I think in the right atmosphere he will have a big comeback season. |

Since 2007, & still only 25, I wish we hadn't traded him, he still has time for improvement. Just subtle changes like cutting down on turnovers, better D zone coverage, would bring his play closer to his salary.
I know, that may be saying too much, but still being young enough, he may. |

I'd be afraid to pay him anything, he's either completely on, or invisible. |

I would take a flyer on him for a short 1-2 year contract (if he was willing to sign for a bonus laden incentive type of deal. So a base salary of something around $3 but with bonuses included for goals/games played etc. I think a team that is going to go for it all could easily pencil him in as a top 6 for any sort of Cup drive. He is, after all a former 40 goal scorer and does have a knack for offense in the right situation. And of course he plays a mean set of bongos |

Prust will be missed. Heart and soul guy. We are curious to see what Kassian will bring to the table. I'm kinda worried about him liking the nightlife in Montreal a little too much... - habman75
A friend of mine who has traveled exstensively told me that the best night life he ever experienced all over the worl was in Montreal.
If he can get his shyt together he could be a helpful piece to a very good team. But he could also turn out to be a bad locker room guy. Hopefully it works out for both. |

JVR is a big guy with talent, he just has the issue of playing with Grimace and that guy with the weird face, Dion Phaneuf. I think he could contribute a lot with the right coaching staff/teammates. Though maybe adding in Mcann is a little much. Maybe make that 2nd a 1st from toronto. - Retinalz
I'm well aware of who he is what he does. I'm all in on the rebuild and not interested in shortcuts. I want our kids to grow together. |

Dions production is because he played with a horrible team. I don't like him myself but that market screwed his stats. I don't think he's an allstar by any means but I think if he gets out of Toronto he'd be more affective. |

Vrbata, Hamhuis, Bartkowski, Weber and Prust all UFA next year.
I wonder who is shopped at deadline and for what. Assuming Canucks are sellers. - storm88
I will be seriously pissed if they dont trade all of them. Im really hoping we are not even close to the playoffs at the deadline. If you look at what teams gave up for deadline rentals there is no reason we cant get at least a 1st for vrbata and hamhuis. Take what ever picks you can get for the others.
Hamhuis will want to resign in the summer anyway more than likely if not no loss anyway. |

Problem is he is a 4.5 to 5 mil guy. No team will pay him his salary elsewhere. 7 mil until 20/21 is stupid money and term. Still a solid D though. |

Hamhuis signing isn't a bad idea. Nor is Bartowski for the right price. |

At least we still have a player from that trade. All buffalo has is a hit on their cap for a few years. Van still won the trade.
I saw everything the ducks f, ames and oilers did to boost their teams which makes it a tougher dividion for sure. Ducks im sure will have another great season. Oilers I felt would be much improved but remember it looks that way every year with their brand new #1 pick and coaxhes etc. They always seem to be in basement however.
Nucks still have 4.2M left in space for mathias and our rfas. Franson is a possibility if mathias not signed or more salary is moved. Personally as much as I absolutely love higgins game he is taking a space for a newcomer with talent and full of fire. Move him for 4th rd to team needing salary. Then go for franson who we know wishes to play here and could sign for less.
We need burrows now that kassian is gone for net screening on PP n to play w sedins. Plus his great speed n clutch goals / shootout ability.. hansons contract is insane but love his hitting and speed threatening teams. Hes more like 2.5M though not 4. People who want burrows hanson gone forget how thats the sole speed on the team if mathias not signed n given kesler gone these days. Speed kills. And lack of speed will sink your team. Just llok at nucks slow pace on PP. Trading your speed would be crazy. Which makes higgins the expendable 1.
Very impressed with horvat, mccann, virtanen. Guess ill forgive MG for trading CS n JB for lack.
But miller and sbisa contracts were terrible. - SMBDragon
Dont spend to the cap this year. Make due with what we have. The cap will come down next year so it would be best to be able to raid teams that are in a position where they have to deal players(see hamilton to flames)

Disagree.
JVR at 4.25m is one of the best contracts in league.
Big young winger, not afraid to stand in front of net
30 goals easy - mr.sir
why do the canucks make this trade? they are in the same place as the leafs as both teams need a rebuild. JVR will be retired by the time the nucks make the playoffs again. |

Let's dream a bit and say Benning actually makes some deadline trades in his favour:
Hamhuis: 1st, 3rd, B roster player (ex- Coburn for 1st, 3rd Gudas)
Vrbata: 2nd, 3rd (30 goal man but not the greatest playoff performer, not worth 1st. Even tho Vermette got a 1st)
Prust: 3rd
Weber: 3rd (if he reaches 10+ goals again)
With a 2nd for Bieksa already
2016 picks:
2 1sts
3 2nds
4 3rds (VAN 3rd to NYI after Pedan trade)
0 5ths (Kass and an 8-ball to MTL)
1 6th
2 7ths (from Car for Lack)
Lets see what actually happens now. |

oh for sure. If you want to get rid of him you'll definitely need to retain salary. No question. |
