Like if ROR is getting 7.5 what does monahan get 9? With all these long term big money deals going to be some teams totally screwed when the cap comes down after next season. Not that it will for sure but if the loony drops and the canadian teams start loosing it has to drop like crazy

Edmonton is going to be up against it - hopefully before they win a cup.

Well are we ready for 3-5 years of suckage ? I am, we had a great run and a great team for awhile but I want the change. I want to suck to get better, only way to happen, no stop gaps just suck, draft and be effing good at that. Trust in linden they say, OK I am in. Maybe I can get some seasons from the bandwagon jumpers ? What ever born a Canuck fan and sure as gonna die one plus the best city in the world hands down , I am have been everywhere and this place is awesome and lucky to call it home. Take the rain and a nice cup of java on the seawall over sunny alberta and stinky Ontario any day. GCG

When the Sedins contracts expire in two years it will free up 14 million. This is the timeline to rebuild the first line. Regardless of what the cap is in 2017 we need to move on from the twins just like we did with Naslund.

hahahahha what a tire fire the Canucks are. Too bad you guys don't have a time machine to like, make your goalie and the Sedin's relevant again.

I have been sitting on the sidelines and listening to all the garbage from a lot of these so called Canuck fans on the talk shows and I just want to . Changes are needed and it will be painful. I may be in the minority but I do have faith in Benning and Linden. There is no doubt this is THEIR team now. I think the Lack trade was fine as it seems that the rest of the GM's think that Lack has reached is full potential and that he is just a back up at best. I like Lack...good character guy..funny. But I would like to see what Markstrom can do. Worse case scenario Miller gets injured and Marstrom sucks and as a result we will finish with a high draft pick.

As far as Bieksa trade I dont have a problem with it. I know that people will say we should have gone back to San Jose to get their 2016 2nd round pick as they will finish lower than Anaheim. We dont know what the conversation was. Wilson from all accounts changed his mind at the last minute and said to Benning that we will give u next years pick which pissed off Benning. I think it was a big FU to Wilson. Dont trade with him. Wilson will be canned sooner rather than later.

Only 2 issues I have is:

1.) throwing in our 5th round pick as well for Prust:

2.) Why did they fire Mike Burnstein? I thought he was one of the well respected trainers around the league?

~The 5th round pick was allegedly a "character/high risk" penalty

~Burnstein was probably let go because they wanted to go in a new direction in that area. TL is very much into that kind of thing.

~I don't have a problem with any of the deals the team made, however I do think JB needs to work on his GM skills.

Agreed. Just give him some time. I usually give a new GM/Coach 3 years before I make a final judgment.

Like I said yesterday. Everyone has been demanding change "LETS GET YOUNGER!"

Then it happens and everyone turns into a bunch of fukking whiners. What happened?

This is the direction this team needs to go in. Did we get fair assets back for what we gave away? only time will tell.

But this team needs to get younger and get younger now. quit your bytchin and moaning.

Van fans can be so snobby.

Personally I think the issues were his job. His ability to get players back to the game.
Example. Richardson foot, Kassians back?

It might just be me but other teams injured players seem to get back to the game faster and close to 100% where as our players were slower to heal and prone to re-injuring themselves. I think after +20 years the same methods become antiquated. If you have ever needed a Physiotherapist the difference between a good one and excellent one is night and day. Sure Mike was good at his job but if he wasn't one of the best and constantly researching new methods to improve at a job where newer and better technics are consistently being introduced it says to me he got stale it happens all the time in every industry.

On a bit of a related topic, with respects to salary/contracts I've also found some useful information on this site:

http://www.spotrac.com/ - it's obviously not capgeek but it does have some fairly good details of various players contracts, including cap-hit and length etc. Check it out

(Carole, are you aware of this site? if so, what are your thoughts?)

- Zogg

I have been mostly using generalfanager.com. I like their site layout and when I've checked Spotrac in the past, it has been missing info I've been looking for.

It seems more fleshed-out now, though still not very visually appealing. And I like that it lists total spending for forwards, defense and goal—which is something I was adding up manually last week when I was doing my free-agency summaries for Bleacher Report.

Man I have been a canuck fan since 1975 and as far as I can remember I have never heard so much female doging and whining from the fan base after they had a GM in place for 1 year. And there were some dark dark times prior to Quinn coming onboard. My message to them "instead of jumping off the band wagon how about jumping off a bridge! Go BIG or go home!

It gives us a proven guy to play a role that Kassian never could. He had all the tools and couldn't get his $hit together on the ice or off of it.

You are going to need some gritty vets willing to stick up for the kids. Helps insulate them and provides leadership/character.

We are going to need both Dorsett and Prust. Prust is high on character. You guys are going to love him.

You wouldn't believe how stoic some trainers are when it comes to new technology in equipment. In many cases they want the overbuilt heavy stuff from the 80s. Look at how ridiculous the Rangers Gloves were that Tortorella said the players needed for blocking. Completely unnecessary how bulky they were. There are materials that are significantly lighter and have far more impact absorption.

I don't know what the issue was with Mike, so I don't want to imply this was the case.

I think complaining is the new black. People just love to b!tch.

It should be painfully obvious we need to rebuild. It needed change after 2012. Maybe people like reruns.

I think with a vet like Prust, you can put him with a younger player or two. More defensively responsible and a bit more physical than Kassian, or at least more consistent in that area.

With more youth in the lineup, making the playoffs will be more of a struggle, but I think it is better, win or lose, to insulate the young guys with character vets.

Its come to the point that I can somewhat understand why we are one of the most hated fan bases

And no, Im not kidding.

Let them do their jobs, critique them in 3 years. They are doing what we asked of them and now everyone is crying in their pillows.

I havent posted a ton on Carols blog in the last month or so because of whiners. The Kassian trade was a tough pill to swallow for many but it is what it is. everyone needs to stfu and move on.

Every move can't be about getting younger, sometimes you've gotta make a decision that you think is best for the organization going forward. I know you're saying that half-heartedly but I just wanted to get that out there.

Its not all of us.

There are 2 factions right meow.

1. Finally change is happening. I am starting to see some things I like but I have a few questions. It might be tough for a while but at least the hard decisions are finally being made.

2. Benning and Linden are fu@king idiots they need to be fired. They are in over their heads, why did they trade our back up goalie? Prust? Bieksa? Sbisa? Miller? They fired a 20+year trainer? But Gilman was our Capologist? Crawford was brought in to help with drafting? Wah wah wah.
