Further to ROR getting mostly bonuses....

Would a bonus be paid in the event of a future strike?
Are bonuses treated differently than salary in the event of a buyout?

I had a suspicion that was why the equipment manager was let go. He was probably told the uniforms needed to have that "Med-Hat Tiger" feel to them and didn't fix it

Was at the pool in the MGM Grand today , I seen more plastic stuffed into bikinis than a Visa manufacturing company. We spent 100 dollars in 4 hours at the bar service, I told the GF she is not allowed any more Pepsis , it gets too expensive,

Sanguinetti is gone I don't care , Heineken seems to be a wonderful pain killer.

Wait until I get back to kill each other.

ROR contract very interesting. Salary is $1M per year. Rest is signing bonus: 10, 8, 7.5, 5, 5, 5 and 5.

Weird ???

- LeftCoaster

I'm sure the signing bonus gets paid regardless of buyout...or strike or lockout or anything else that might happen...

19 goals (six on the powerplay) wasn't a bad year actually but hopefully he'll get more power-play opportunities now that he's out from under the shadow of Ovie and Backstrom.

I like the deal (and I like what Ward brings) - probably the first reasonable deal I've seen in quite a while

F*ck, that contract is absurd. Just after I noted the Ward deal was one of the first reasonable signings I've seen for a while, along comes this ridiculous RR signing. Just surreal, really. We are talking about Top Ten hockey player contract values. Ryan Sedin, come on down now and claim your pot of gold

I think it was MBergevin who said this is when gm's make costly mistakes. I guess the Sabres had the room.

If the cap doesn't keep growing, salaries should plateau, I hope JB is going to make sure we have plenty of cap space to take advantage of the maxed teams.

Part of me worries that for appearance sake, trying to make the playoffs, the club will continue to be close to the cap max.

Agreed. If we are in pretty much tank mode then I'm assuming the Canucks will have at least some cap space to work going forward, in terms of perhaps taking advantage of a cap-strapped team that is in a contend-now mode. Maybe get a quality player back by doing what Buffalo just did, but in a lot more reasonable and financially prudent way.

Still, gotta love those offer sheets and how they can rapidly turn a good player's salary into the very high end of the chart (I don't think there is any way RR gets $7.5 without having gone through the OS process last year, which already dictated his salary to be on high end side of the bar. From there, the process just escalated by Buffalo having to up the ante (perhaps there was another offer sheet in the works by another team as well?)

I have heard it mentioned ROR was the 3c in Colorado. Not really sure if that was true on a consistent basis or if the 3rd line there is played closer to the minutes of a 2nd? If he can be top 25 in scoring or is playing top line in Buffalo, I guess that is how they justify the salary. Good luck to him I guess.

Yeah, it is excessive.

Stastny is making 7per with the Blues. Is ROR that much better? Or is he even better?

I don't think anyone with the club would ever admit they are in tank mode. But I do think JB is ensuring there are openings for new players beyond Sven and RonnyK.

A little more youth in the lineup, surrounded by some vets, I think they will still try to make the playoffs and that may or may not happen. And it will be good for the club either way.

I forgot all about the Stastny deal (46 points last year ). At least RR is significantly younger (24 vs 29) and is probably a lot more versatile. Yes, I think he was listed as a 3c but actually played wing for most of the year on the top two lines. The kid is a good player but nowhere near $7.5/year good. I'm sure Buffalo feels that he still hasn't hit his ceiling yet so maybe, just maybe, this deal turns out to be somewhat more reasonable down the road (presumably when RR enters his prime years of 27-30). Right now, however, it's just a very ugly looking contract for a lengthy term.

And now they've fired head trainer Burnstein. For all those who have wanted to see the house cleaned, it's happening. I believe there is a plan, it is a tear down and rebuild. The expiring contracts are going to allow for more picks and dep being how the young look next year and how the team does, they'll probably take on more expiring contracts next year at the be of the season for more picks the year after.

This ain't for the weak-hearted, but it's what's needed.

The fact that we have acquired 5 first rounders in the last years makes me think were all ready 3 years in.

On a bit of a related topic, with respects to salary/contracts I've also found some useful information on this site:

http://www.spotrac.com/ - it's obviously not capgeek but it does have some fairly good details of various players contracts, including cap-hit and length etc. Check it out

(Carole, are you aware of this site? if so, what are your thoughts?)

I hate the CBA and these bull poop contracts. Players should not get signing bonuses they should have to make an equal amount every year of the contract to prevent cap circumvention.

RR is Jordan Staal 2.0, a decent offensively gifted 2-way center who's vastly overrated because he played with Landeskog, Duchene and MacKinnon. That's going to weigh them down as they pull out of the cellar with Eichel and the rest.
