I know man, I respectfully agree. I watched Kessel get drafted and was excited. I created a Seguin skater in NHL 08 and won the Calder trophy with him. Thornton was my favourite player and I was in highschool and cried when I was told he was traded. Hamilton I didn't feel strong enough about to feel a connection with until this season, but agree all great stars.
However, given the situation, we know why Hamilton was traded and it was somewhat necessary given the facts.
Seguin trade got a half decent return, got rid of Peverley's contract, and allowed us to sign Iginla.
And the Kessel trade got us both Hamilton and Seguin, so cannot say it was a bad return.
Can't defend Thornton. Hate the trade. That is all.
I just like Devil's Advocate too much I guess. - Videoj
I hear your point of view man. Before them it was Bourque and Neely obviously.....but Oates, Carter, Allison, etc.......all the guys I loved watching we end up getting rid of...)
At this point we have nothing to show from the Kessel-Seguin-Hamilton trade other than Ericksson on this NHL roster...............
Kinda nuts that Loui is all that is remaining from those three stars.......and half of Boston wants him gone!
(C. Miller, J. Morrow, and the first rounder for Dougie......who knows what happens with them) |

Lol Allison was my favourite too before Thornton, did a project on him in grade school. However, the return for him (Stumpel and Murray) did pretty well compared to what he did afterwards. I LOVED Carter though. Lit poop up in NHL 99 with him.
This Miller guy seems legit, people have aid good things, excited to see what happens with him. Gotta believe in three years though this team will have a lot of young talent. 6 1st rounders, several 2nds. Pasta, koko, Connolly, spoon, hayes, belesky. Anchored by Bergeron, Krej, Marchy and Erik... That's if the players remain the same, which is doubtful the way Sweeney is runnin it lol |

In two - three year we are going to be a very good team.........especially if we keep the draft picks and Sweeney and Gretzky keep hitting on these kids.
Please don't waste Bergy's prime years Donny! |

Thought what ward signed for in Washington a few years back was a good comparable for Beleskey. Reasonable signing.
Quite the roller coaster with Sweeney. Definitely interested to see what he does next.

On a side note, why didn't Boston get in on Oshie? Small cap hit and seemed like a small return for him. I love Oshie and his style of play. Apparently he was shopped to all the teams, wonder what the Don thought of him.

The caps did give up a 20G scorer
The Blues interchanged an outside player for a player not afraid to go to the net
Additionally, I believe the blues were after some goalie insurance
This Copley guy has played well in the AHL this past season |

5 million, red flags!
3.8 million for a 30 pt player, all good! |

Depending on the definition of star, boston still has Bergeron, still has Marchand, still has Krejci, still has Rask. To be fair, in what 10 years trading away 4 "stars", while bringing in a mix of stars in Chara, Savard, Murray, potentially Erikson. A cup, a couple Presidents trophies, etc. I can't say that they are crippling themselves. In a salary cap era teams cycle through their star players. Keep the some, trade some, develop some new ones. Look at Chicago, got rid of Niemi, Buf, Versteeg, probably Sharp next? Rangers lost several over the past few years. Philly lost Mike Richards, Jeff Carter, etc.
This is just how it happens - Videoj

20 goals is the target
Should hit it if he's on the first line - MTL1
Agreed. $3.8m for a guy who can chip in 20 and hit. Pretty standard market value. Hell, we used to pay Michael Ryder $4m to do that. |

Thornton wasn't any good......although he is a Hall of Famer.........
- JIwasinskiJr
While Thornton has put up great numbers - currently sitting #36 on all-time scoring list, his is missing the team success, oh ya, and Mark Recchi isn't in the HHOF yet so Thornton not a slam duck.
Kessel is a potential Rocket Rchard finalist.......
Seguin is a potential Rocket and Art Ross finalist.......
Thornton won the Art Ross and Hart Trophy.........
Hamilton will be a Norris finalist in the near future.......
- JIwasinskiJr
I like Dougie but if you honestly believe he will be a Norris Finalist, you my friend are fooling youself. Don't get me wrong, he's a top defenseman in the league, but barring a rash of injuries to Karlsson, Subban, Keith, Doughty, Giordano, Weber, OEL or Josi Hamilton has no chance at sniffing the Norris.
Sure he'll put up points in CGY, DENNIS WIDEMAN finished 4th in the league in points by defensemen (and let's not fool our selves, points carry the most weight in the Norris voting) but he also finished 20th on the Norris ballot. |

Great. Fine. Awesome.
You don't think trading away the players I mentioned matters. YOUR OPINION.
As a fan for a long time, I'm upset that my favorite players have gotten traded away for thirty years. MY OPINION.
Nothing to see here. Have a great day.
EDIT: he had the best chance to win a Norris out of all the remaining players we have.............but who cares. |
