There's a Japanese saying, the nail that sticks out gets hammered down, meaning that if you don't want to conform then you're going to be shunned. There's a difference to having a differing opinion, but you better shut the hell up and soldier if you want to keep your job, especially after a change in management. - DariusKnight
I am not a fan of being told what to say or what to think.
I whole heartedly agree that you need to squeeze some lemons to make lemonade . I am not sad to see them go, but it doesn't take away from the fact that they have made questionable signings mostly as of late.
I am glad Bieksa is gone and am hoping for deeper moves, but I wish Benning took the SJ second instead. |

It is fairly clear to me that the rebuild has begun. Unfortunately, we are in a bit of a predicament with the Sedins. Awesome players, but we cannot win a cup with them at the core of the team. They are signed to 2018-19 I believe, so this will likely be the timeline for the rebuild. Benning might not be the Gm of the year, but he is strongly in favor of developing young players before tossing them into the show. To answer the question " Are the kids ready?" , the answer is an obvious no. The only standout player who is ready for the NHL is Horvat, who has already made the jump. Shinkaruk, Virtanen, Subban and McCann are all going to need another few years.
Benning sucks at making the big move, but right now he just needs to keep drafting and developing so we can make a push once the Sedin's contracts' expire. By that time, we will see a whole new core of young players that the Canucks have drafted and developed.
This in-house technique has been utilized by the Red WIngs for years. Strong drafting and proper development has allowed them to remain competitive year after year while avoiding the classic rebuild. If Benning continues to emphasize the importance of drafting, we should come out of this rebuild with a much stronger team.
His moves in the past several weeks have been a tad confusing, moving Bieksa and Lack for a 2nd, 3rd and a 5th. These moves may have been necessary, but Martin Jones pulled in a 1st, and the Bieksa deal probably should have reeled in a 2nd + a prospect. So we did lose out on some potential gains, but the message was clear.

People who've never really had to experience some down years are in for a rude awakening. It sucks to be at the bottom but I've seen this movie before, it is what it is, eventually you come out of it.
In the past 20 years the only really bad years the Canucks have had are 97/98-98/99-99/00. The bandwagon'ers can (frank) right off if you truly want my opinion.
New management groups firing a few people is nothing out of the ordinary, Lombardi fired his whole scouting staff when he took over in LA, the Oilers just fired their whole staff after watching McTavish work his magic over the course of just over a year, Shanahan fired everyone in the organization after a year on the job to get a pulse on things.

Felt like he got emotional on that trade so he tried to get back at SJ by trading him to a rival.

I think they sent Bieksa to Sanjose's neighbour as a F#ck you to Wilson. |

No denying Gillis and hi crew left the new mgmt. a nightmare. Overall I am happy with some of the stuff. The city is divided right now . half calling for his head and the other half giving approval.
To me ,I take it at ballsy mostly, and good on him, but there are definitely questions |

Jones played on a Stanley Cup winning team, Bieksa and Lack played for a team treading water and trending down. There's a difference, and not to mention that SJ pulled two d!ck moves by pulling trade offers from us and Sather and then turned around and traded for Jones with a 1st.

Indeed they did. They bit off their nose to spite their face.
I once had a chance to buy a second hand Mercedes for 10 K off a wienerhead or a 15 K car similar off a nice couple. I took the 10K car and my friend bought the 15 K car. My car lasted 2 more years than his and more milage |

Wilson getting the black ball from all sides. That f#ck should be out of a job. |

I see this process in two steps ; first the teardown and then the rebuild. Tanking is essentially the same thing as the teardown. Positioning yourself to start rebuilding your roster. Benning's doing that right now. Getting ride of dead weight so positions are available.

It's really an unknown, San Jose could have a major bounce-back year be within five points of Anaheim. We just don't know. They got a second, that's the important thing. People always want more.
What if San Jose's pick ends up being worse than Anaheims? |

Maybe we're the only ones who thought Lack or Bieksa could have received more. People just keep assuming that Benning left a better offer on the table because he somehow can't negotiate. Sometimes you can't do better because no one will give you better.

Going by last years results one would be closer to a first round pick while the other is closer to a third round pick. |

The point is, it's a best guess at most. Two years ago the Sharks had 111 points, they were crushed by losing a 3-0 lead to LA and had a down year. They could very well have a good bounceback year like the Canucks did....it's really an unknown.
The facts are the Sharks are not a terrible team. |

Outside of the twins, our two older players, we don't have a whole lot that's NHL top six worthy, Vrbata. San Jose has Thornton and Marleau as their older players but they also have 30 yr old Joe Pavelski, who's a 40 goal scorer, Logan Couture who's 26 and a 30 goal 65 point center, Burns, Nieto, Vlasic, Hertl, Wingels, Tierney etc....they're not a bad team.
Just a hunch but I say they have a playoff year and we don't. |

We are still a fringe team. No arguments.
Just wondering, if we don't make the playoffs could both the Kings and Sharks get in? Western conference is getting tight.
Was just thinking, when you said they weren't a bad team, there are less and less bad teams in the west. Really just Arizona if everyone else is improving or status quo.
