Absolutely its not. Its about a divide office. Show of strength and gaining respect in the process.

My GM told me a story about when our president took over the company from his father. The VP thought he should be Pres and did everything in his power to countermand anything the new president did said ect. He tried to divide the company and make him look weak. My boss who people started to think was weak and unable to make the tough decision went home for the weekend. On a Sunday afternoon he drove to the main branch office and called a board of directors meeting(on a sunday when everyone was off for the weekend). As soon as everyone arrived and was seated he stood up and fired the VP on the spot. Security was waiting for him with boxes and escorted him out of the building. Not one of the board of directors said a word. Problem solved.

Two days ago one of the Project Managers and the Lead Engineers asked me to look at something, they sent me an email attachment with a "serious problem".

I read it over, they actually wanted to re-grade a proposed facility because they felt the Operations people couldn't properly reach equipment....I was just astonished, shocked that professional people can be so stupid.

I was thinking they must be relatives of Nuckers because they're seriously overthinking things.

- LeftCoaster

Called a severe lack of critical thinking. I wish I could find some of that skill to hire, but it is hard to find - except maybe on this blog or course

Before I leave

Sekeres on 1040 said he spoke with Gilman in private after the Sbisa/Dorsett signings, and Gillman didn't want anything to do with those signings. Didn't even want to talk about it.

That's not what he said, he said Gilman wouldn't even discuss the topic. Professional conduct. But I'm sure he was against those contracts given his past history.

As much as we, long time tortured canucks fans know, the organization hasn't had a lot of luck in it's 40ish years. However, the air being let out of the balloon may be coming at the exact right time to cash in on some good timing.

We all see the downward trajectory for the next couple of seasons (at least). This should mean that there is no pressure to be a cap tight team. Hopefully, the purge continues and the total cap commitment decreases.

I say this because the Canadian economy is in a recession and if you believe the forecasts, the loonie will take a tumble. Some are projecting that the dollar will drop to $0.70 vs USD.

This will be a good thing for the Canucks. With a decreasing dollar, the cap will either decrease or remain relatively stagnant. This should mean that contenders and cap strapped teams will probably have to lose pretty good players (or not be able to re-sign upcoming rfa's etc.)

If the Canucks remain fiscally responsible cap wise, there should be opportunities in the next couple of years to take advantage of the low dollar.

That's my glass half full post of the day.

And by his past history do you mean:

Sundin - 2 years $20 million at age 37
Sedin x 2 - 4 years $28 million full NMC at age 32
Bieksa - 4 years $16 million NTC at age 30
Chris Higgins - NTC
Jannik Hansen - NTC
Alex Burrows - NTC
Ryan Kesler - NTC
Jason Garrison - NTC
Roberto Luongo - WTF

I'm not saying Benning is some genius or anything, but Gilman was the numbers guy under Gillis, and right now the team is in a pretty crappy place because of these numbers.

Why?

Some employees don't want to just sit in a corner and sing Kumbaya.

Some employees want to make a difference. Like I said I understand they had two divided groups, it is fine to streamline it to make it a smoother operation, but Gilman is a very smart and has a passion and an opinion.

Christ who in this city did think it was a good signing? I haven't hear one person say that is a good signing. I don't hate it , but I was surprised at the dollar amount

Like I said in the last blog I hold him partially responsible for all of those. Surprised he lasted this long.

Agree, not to mention the trades for Booth, Samuel Pahlsson, Derek Roy, Diaz, and not to mention Ballard.

Call me crazy, but I'm guessing the Crawford/Henning/Gilman group was more methodical with their opinions and Linden/Benning/Weisbrod/Delorme are more from the good old boys club and not analytical thinking at all.

- Nucker101

And you base this opinion on what? The sky isn't falling Nucker. They said change was coming and that included an overhaul of scouting and upper management. The organization has done a poor job of drafting and developing their youth. I highly doubt a young and bright guy like linden isn't aware of analytics.

There's a Japanese saying, the nail that sticks out gets hammered down, meaning that if you don't want to conform then you're going to be shunned. There's a difference to having a differing opinion, but you better shut the hell up and soldier if you want to keep your job, especially after a change in management.

Nucker had a post on here and erased it which i was quoting before it was erased. I personally didn't hear the actual interview. I was only responding to what he had quoted him as saying.

Sounds like Canucks Jonathan Wall, director hockey ops & analytics, gets a big promotion, to fill in the work of Laurence Gilman. Very smart man!!
- LeftCoaster

But I thought linden and Benning don't know what analytics are? Lol
