And now he thinks Benning is a horrible GM
- A_SteamingLombardi

He's a good scout but yes I think he's pretty mediocre or below average at everything else. Only his drafting can save him.

All I'm saying is that I always some rationale behind each move Gillis made outside of the Roy trade. Benning meanwhile seems to make moves that are just bizarre: firing Crawford, Sbisa contract, Miller contract, Kassian deal, Dorsett contract, asking for Sbisa instead of a better asset in the Kesler deal, the Vey deal. Some of the moves have worked out like Baertschi and Vrbata but so far I've seen more warning signs than positive.
- Nucker101

Linden fired Crawford, not Benning, get the facts straight. Not sure why he fired him, I thought he was the reason drafting started turning around. That's the one and only one I find disappointing.

yup, it will be interesting to see if they do hire and who they bring in. I think they want to tank as well but are trying to balance the tank with season ticket sales. Cant outright come out and say we going to suck. We will see.
- anavar

I don't think they want to tank.

On analytics:

Linden: analytics plays a big role in our game today, big piece. It’s not the magic bullet, but definitely a significant piece. We have people internally who are working on that side of the game, and they’ll continue with it. I’m comfortable with that right now.

I don't know he could be an 8 to 10 year GM for us.
- thundachunk

Then his won't end well.

I can understand the firing today. Two different groups battling on all decisions. You lose good people but streamline decision making, and everyone fighting the same battle

Linden said on 1040 they're not planning on hiring anyone, responsibilities will be filled internally.

Linden/Benning have lied publicly before. I highly doubt he did this without getting his own GM's two cents. If you guys truly believe that this is 100% Linden then I don't know what to say.

He also said they were done making moves half a dozen times in the days following the draft.

The Sbisa trade/signing, Miller signing and Dorsett signing suggest that this is a blatant lie.

Of course he would consult the GM, but at the end of the day, this was his decision.

Yeah, but by then we'll really know how the Linden/Benning/Weisbrod/Delorme group did.

You should get a job as an analytics guy with a junior club, work your way up to Major Junior and perhaps apply?

I'm not saying it won't be a gong show, I think there was too much heated discussion behind Canucks closed doors ( much like there is here) about how things should be done. Here arguing is a day in the life of HB. In a professional sports team it is unacceptable.

I question a lot of Bennings deals, but he is cleaning house and I am very happy for that.

You have to take into account the fact that we're up against the cap and the crop of UFAs is at best milquetoast. Most teams are going to sign the players they've targeted as 'core' through most of their primes long-term. Since 3 successive regimes (Burke, Nonis, Gillis) gutted our prospect depth and several years of being contenders has made us draft in the bottom half of the 1st round and the massive amount of NTCs we carry on players who's best years are long behind them means the type of things that scare you are all we can count on at this point.

I don't see any warning signs because I don't see this team as being able to realistically pull out of spinning their wheels for another 3 years at least once the Sedins retire and Horvat/Virtanen/McCann/Cassels/Boeser etc hit their primes. Incidentally, that's when Benning/WD's contracts are up as well, which is why I say that I don't worry about the moves he's making because I don't see him getting resigned. He's a transitional GM who's getting his first kick as the head guy in order to learn what it takes and get the team to a position where a more experienced GM can take it over the top.

Oh now we're back to lying, only Canuck management lie. I'm also very sure Aquilini put in his 2 cents and it's his (frank)ing team.
