Ed Stein - Write up...
Hello Kevin Bieksa
Defenseman Kevin Bieksa was acquired from the Canucks in exchange for a second round draft pick in 2016. Kudos to GM Bob Murray for picking up a vet with some gas in the tank and an edge to his game. Some of the criticism of the pick up has to do with Bieksa's age and declining ability. On this team Bieksa can be an 18-20 minute per night player, he doesn't need to be on the ice as much as he was in Vancouver. Additionally, his cap hit is $4.6M this season, but his actual salary is $2.5M. A good move for a budget conscious team. The Ducks thought enough of Bieksa to give him a two year, $8M contract extension.
Have to say this is not likely to happen |

I think our future looks pretty bright.
Anyone sign Mathias? Richardson? Not yet. I don't mind them leaving through UFA. It happens all the time. - thundachunk

He only wanted to play out west... that left only a small amount of teams.... unless one of the california teams was making an offer it was a bad deal. 1 year too long and 1 Million too much. Getting the extra yr should have brought the average down at least. - SMP8719
I don't mind the length of the deal. The money was high. I think you were being quite generous with 1 million per over paid. That said even the money wasn't a big issue for me. We paid for peace of mind. You want proven strength in goal.
Eddie was never really proven. I personally had no confidence in him going into last season. He did well at the end of both season but he has never started a season. I was not happy watching him in the playoffs. There was lots of holes in his game. He did the best he could and had some strong play at times which was encouraging. |

Regardless of how Lack did Miller is not the guy that was gonna win us a round. And the salary should have decreased as he got older if he got the three yrs. 6 to 5 to 4 which would have dropped the cap to 5. otherwise 2 yrs for 6. But just my opinion anyways. the blues gave up a poop load for Miller and he, if anything degraded their goalie situation. That should have been a red flag that he is no longer a top 10 goalie and his game is only going to get worse. Even Brian Elliot did well in St Louis!! That and the fact that every news platform reported that he only wanted to play on the west coast, yet we still gave him top 10 money for 3 yrs for an old declining goalie.

Bergevin is proving to be very adept at maneuvering the salary cap with an uncanny way of making excellent trades of veteran players in their last year of contract and getting an excellent return. While Prust provided veteran leadership and toughness, it was obvious that he had lost a step. At a cap hit of $2.5 million, Prust was simply being paid to much to play on the 4th line. Prust will be missed in Montreal but most fans understand the business of the game and this was the right time to let Prust go.

I think he would have won us a round, so I disagree with that but the rest that follows I think we are both on the same level. |

He must have been there when TL was a player... Is this all about difference of opinions or performance?
