I think, in Edmonton's case anyways, it had more to do with Kevin Lowe having the hockey IQ of a hotdog moreso than it had anything to do with him being an ex-Oiler.
I love hotdogs BTW, some of the best times in my life right now, are when my dad and I go out for a hotdog and just chat about life....he loves hotdogs too.

Some people realize that this team was going down hill now matter who is in charge.... some people think it's all the GM's fault - Mungo
It's a transition we all knew was coming, it's arrived and doesn't sit well with some. I have no false hope or expectations for at least the next 3 years. I still stand behind my comment JB needs to be better at negotiating and stop making excuses. Jury is still out on that one. |

I like to think Linden and Benning are a lot smarter than Lowe and that brain trust. Ron Delorme, well he had some good years as scout and a had a black ball era with Gillis. I can imagine he would be pretty frustrated with those years.
Being that he still has a job I would say he is a team player and works hard at his job. Good leaders take the good and the bad with employees and I am sure they respect his consult. Truly he had some good years. - thundachunk
Delorme kept his job b/c he's an alumni, book it. |

Edmonton definitely didnt have the quality of veterans that Van has to ease through a quicker rebuild. They traded Smyth away and tanked hard and had no one to mentor Eberle, Hall and RNH into the NHL, just baptism by fire. Canucks are stripping it down but will transition their rookies in under solid guidance from character guys, ie Sedins, Hamhuis, (and in Bennings opinion) Dorsett and Prust. Detroit has done it this way, Boston did it this way, even LA has done it. |

I have been to a slaughter house. I prefer killing my own food now. Much more humane. I know where my food comes from. I get steaks they come from the same cow. Even hot dogs I get local none of the mass produced crap. |

The only time a team should be signing "high-end" UFA's is when they established a core, like Chicago did when they had Toews, Kane, Seabrook and Keith in place. They then signed Hossa and traded for Sharp. But the initial key was to draft a core of players, that's what the Canucks need to do. - LeftCoaster
If UFA signings can be moved at TDL then it makes sense even as a rebuilding team. Signing overpriced UFA's that can't be traded is another (Miller

He only wanted to play out west... that left only a small amount of teams.... unless one of the california teams was making an offer it was a bad deal. 1 year too long and 1 Million too much. Getting the extra yr should have brought the average down at least.

Just remember, Lu's contract was untradeable. Some on here over estimated what he was worth and everyone outside of these threads said he was untradeable.
Miller may yet be traded. Might be the last year of his contract at tdl, but it still may happen.
Lots of change is coming, lots of expiring contracts.
I agree about trading ufa's, I hope we get something good for Vrbata and Prust.
It was disappointing we didn't move Matthias or Richardson at last tdl, at least we didn't trade them and a pick away for a slightly better rental... something that we would have seen in the past.

I hope Vrbata has another decent season so we can grab a 1st at the deadline |

It would be nice if we even got a 3rd rounder for Miller at the TDL in his final season that will all depend on his play on a young team.
I was also disappointed that we didn't get anything for our UFA's. Teams need the extra draft pics to rebuild, hanging on to veteran UFA's at the TDL that aren't going to be resigned is kind of stupid unless you believe the are integral to a possible cup run..... that was far from the case last year. |

I wasn't happy that neither Matthias or Richardson was moved, I think Richardson may have been injured just before the tdl, not sure if that had any impact on any deal.
But like I was trying to say, at least JB didn't go out and do a Derek Roy sort of trade. I think moving either for picks or prospects would have been the right move, but the whole making the playoffs as a goal, and go from there, meant they weren't going anywhere.
I guess it is the magic of the playoffs, if you make the playoffs, anything can happen. While we all knew, it was unlikely much was going to happen. Another year out in the first round, at least we won a couple games. |

Yep.
The only thing I question in that post is
"10. JB and TL don't care about your GM skills."
Don't they read HB and take all our recommendations under advisement?
We aren't just blowing off steam and wasting our time here right? right? |

If that's truly the case, and we'll find out as soon as we learn who the replacements are. We will be the Oilers 2.0, man I hope I'm wrong on this. - VanHockeyGuy
We are Flames 2.0...not EDM

Anyone sign Mathias? Richardson? Not yet. I don't mind them leaving through UFA. It happens all the time. |

Very true but that mentality will change. In the advent of a 500mil+ Arena and the tax base in EDM results are needed now. In Central Alberta circles around here I have heard the league is not happy with how Katz/lowe have handled the team over the past 6 years or so. Big shock. And they have been told by the powers that be to get their collective s**t together..and soon. |
