Yes. He strikes me as a straight forward, no nonsense person.
He does not have a hidden agenda.
He's up front with what he thinks the team needs. He says something and then gets it done.
I don't have a problem with this. - dbot
Sbisa signing is not the end of the world.
Not sure if JB is done yet on d. I think they have said they are done, but have said that before too.
I don't think he has revealed his whole agenda ... and he shouldn't.
No matter what, he will be second guessed and judged beyond the product on the ice, on perceived trade opportunities that may or may not have ever existed. Contracts, like Sbisa's and drafting. Until the team wins a cup, no lineup will ever be good enough. And people will still be b!tching then. |

Gilman sounds like a classy guy, I wish him well.
“Other than getting married and the birth of my two children, moving to Vancouver and becoming a Canuck was the greatest thing in my life,” he said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity, grateful to the Aquilinis and grateful to Mike and Trevor.
“It’s been a wonderful experience for me and my family. This is a first-rate organization. |

Our fans suck. - A_SteamingLombardi
No, our fans are uneducated, myopic, elitist, entitled and tend to watch too much Sportsnet, TSN and listen to Team 1040 and believe that they're the be-all-end-all of sportstalk radio/TV and that their opinions are always right. |

looks up definition of myopic....
i think the real problem is thebelief that their is one way to build a NHL champion team.
Its a crap shoot.
There is no recipe for success.
So much depends on luck, injuries, match ups, etc.
I love how after 1 team wins the SC, there is a new 'blueprint'
eg Boston wins - you need grit, muscle, etc.
Chicago wins you need speed, skill and depth.
LA wins you need a vezina goalie.

Maybe it's because the way Gillis/Gilman "read" the analytics was so poopty? It's not like any of the moves that they made in the last several years worked out well, the whole "over ager" thing hasn't really panned out... - 1970vintage
The nucks were a game away from the cup in 2011. Who knows with a few breaks, ie. Manny not getting nearly blinded for life with a puck, Kesler not getting injured as a couple, maybe we'd be saying something else about Gillis. I'm not a supporter of his but winning the cup isn't necessarily about using or not using the analytics, but sometimes luck.

I'd take these firings as a sign that Aquillini is on board with the rebuild. He's telling TL that if there's no playoff revenue then shed some contracts and cut some unnecessary staff so my profit margin stays high. Another positive ! Embrace the rebuild people.... |

Could be. Even if it is a case of division among the group... best to sort that out immediately.

Agreed. MG that numb skull have up on speed and skill after 2011 and decided to go back to it the summer he was fired. Instead of kassian he should have traded for someone with speed and skill on the back end who could help the pp which disappeared in the 2011, 2012, 2013 playoffs...

For some reason my reply option isn't working.
Yes I do have a choice & that choice is to stop giving the Canucks any additional revenue over & above my season ticket costs for 2 seats & accepting that I can't currently expect to cover my season ticket costs each year from the revenue selling them has provided in the past.
Although I have made so much money from previous seasons attending 12 to 15 games a season, giving 10 to 12 away to clients & selling the big ticket games that I really shouldn't complain but being a fan & 30 + years as a season ticket holder I think like you I have a right to voice my opinion.
That being I don't like Benning. I like his moves to date with the exception of the Vrbata signing which in fairness was a major accomplishment, even less. The Bruins were my favorite team until the 3rd & final strike this season. 40 plus years. That being moving Thornton, Seguin & now Hamilton with out staging a full binding war & moving all 3 significantly under value; Benning was part of 1 of those decision & that may slight my opinion & he may have been opposed for all I know. Rumors are floating that decision was primarily made by Neeley. I cheered for the Canucks against Boston but sold almost all my tickets & watched the games at the Shark Club & on Georgia street. Those returns have covered the cost of my season tickets for the last 2 years. - striker777

Reading through the pages today, I can't believe how some posters are so opposed to the idea that some of these moves being made are bad.
Some people here seem to think that disagreeing with these moves makes you a whiny child, band wagon jumper, lier and on and on. The ones acting childish imo are the ones who cannot read criticism without resorting to belittling those authors.......
We all knew Benning had to make some moves and I don't think anyone is criticizing the fact that kassian, bieksa, lack, Garrison, kesler etc are gone but that the return was below market value.
Same that yes he needed to acquire a vet goalie, toughness and d depth but again paid higher than other teams have.
Regardless of what the returns were, this team going to get worse, I think everyone agrees, but that doesn't mean some of the moves Benning has made are not bad.
Im still willing to wait a few years before deciding whether Benning is a competent GM but imo I have seen more bad then good, of course I saw the opposite with Gillis's first few years and the last few were much worse, so I will be taking the long view. - belcherbd
Well said. I believe there is a divide on here. If you are 30 or over you are patient and beleive in Benning/ lindens plan. If you are under....well the sky is falling and Benning is too stupid to understand analytics or negotiate w another gm. It's getting really old

Having an opinion is a good thing, people who say they've had enough of this franchise they can't take it anymore and are jumping ship are the pathetics. I'm talking about the HF Boards I was reading today for the most part. - LeftCoaster
Stop reading HF....its way to infuriating lol. A bunch of female doging 20 year olds that don't know jack about hockey and switch allegiances every two weeks |

That was my first thought as well.
At least AF finally came to the realization that this needs to happen.
I would have been much happier if it were 3 years ago, but in any case Game On.

I don't think Benning is a good negotiator as it stands today, and I also don't buy the excuses like "Eastern teams don't know about players from the west", if that was true they wouldn't draft players from the WHL right? There has obviously been a lot of finger pointing going on. Good thing Italians don't get emotional. |

The #1 pick next year is from AZ. He's already built for the NHL. A boy in a man's body.

It's really hard to negotiate from a position of weakness.
It's really hard to find takers for a bunch of losers.
Like... Really Hard.
