With all this talk of alternate means of watching the games -streaming or game center and a desire to reduce my cable snake bill, guess I will have to learn something new. At some point I guess it means an upgrade of my home TV's in house networking & audio. Considering my day job is another type of engineering (not IT related) I should be able to learn about or maybe I will have to hire someone to give me a hand selecting components and providers/services. Its the old joke about 300 channels of nothing and you really only use about 20-25
I guess that really leads to initial costs to setup 3 TV's for the nearly cable free world and time to payback to realize savings....
Plus its gotta be foolproof for a non tech wife...
Having to learn this and about social security, medicare and retirement planning at once is a challenge - Steelmanpa
As long as your TV's have hdmi ports you should be good. There won't be anything of significance to upgrade. Assuming you don't have smart TV's, you will just need to purchase a device such as an apple tv, roku, chormecast, etc.
My parents aren't very tech friendly and they manage to navigate an apple tv device sufficiently.

Having him injured last year was brutal for us.. having him gone would be worse.
When healthy you can pretty much pencil him in for a 20-20 year while providing great all around play. - jak521
Very true, the Flyers need him to have a bounce back year...badly.
I would rank that in the top 10 things that need to come together for the Flyers to get in the POs this year. A healthy and productive Read. Cue BigE for a top ten list! |

Very similar franchise trajectories the last 10 years...
The Phillies on the other hand, that's the city team to emulate. - wolfhounds
To be honest, I like the trajectory of both the Flyers and Sixers right now. When you recognize a rebuild needs to occur, it allows you to take advantage of teams trying to win now. |

They are down on Straka. Needs a big AHL season to become part of the plan for the NHL team. Otherwise, he probably won't get a QO next summer.
I would like to see Zepp re-signed, especially now with many of the other NHL/AHL swingmen having been signed. - bmeltzer
I'm surprised he hasn't already been signed. He had a great season on an under siege Phantoms team that gave up a stupid number powerplays. |

My only big worry with the Sixers, which I cannot prove/disprove, is that Hinkie will get so locked into the "need to acquire more picks" mentality and will never be able to build a team because he'll keep trading players for more picks. |

I don't keep up with the Sixers, but I certainly hope they are competitive again soon. It just seems to me that they are in a constant state of flux and I can't really get a handle on what the 'team' is or where it's going. You know better than I whether Hinkie has a plan and is sticking to it.
Flyers and Sixers rising back up to prominence would be pretty sweet. |

My thing is when do they start winning.
If Embid is out another year that just pushes it back more. Also for all the talk about the picks he keeps acquiring, which ones have become anything. MCW was traded for a Lakers 1st rounder that isn't going to be anything special. It was lottery protected and next season they will be better and pick will fall out of top 10 probably. |

What's the right scenario? I'm not sure what your opinion is. You say he's a very important player here, and in another post, he's very average. - MJL
I'm not sure I can explain it much better than that? Just because we have a poorly constructed roster doesn't make Read a better player. |

You need forward prospects too and the 29th + 61st we used on Konecny would have been the first thing going the other way, plus plenty more. |

That's the danger of his approach. Having a bunch of players chosen in the draft that are just a collection of players, and never form a team. In my opinion, he is taking it too slow in putting an actual team on the floor, to build some continuity and chemistry. In my opinion his approach could just as well result in a flop, versus a top team. Many Sixers fans are looking at it like it's a great thing. Maybe, maybe not. |

I wasn't saying I wouldn't have used the picks on forwards.
I just meant you can never have enough defense prospects. Forwards are a little easier to find |

The only big difference between the 2 is that the Flyers are (trying to) remaining competitive. They haven't completely gutted the team and traded their top players for picks. Now, if Hinkie thinks that the team is better suited by doing so, then it's his priviliege to do it. But the Flyers have at least tried to ice a competitive team while building their prospect pool. - jmatchett383

The strength of the roster doesn't make Read a better player. His actual play and ability is what makes him the valuable player that he is.
Just do me a favor, go back to the 12/13 and 13/14 seasons and look at RW's, which is what I think they have listed as Read's position, and look at ES point totals. See where Read ranks, and who he is comparable to. Then consider how Read is used, and what situations he plays in. |

If you listen to him talk and understand his philosophy, you'd be more inclined to agree with what he's doing.
If you look at it from an outside perspective, you'll never understand and see each move as just a way to move the team further from contention. |

The NBA is different in where one or two players can control a team and game. I don't see the Sixers as being attractive to a superstar that they need to compete.
Hockey is much more team oriented and a mediocre team can get hot and player well and sometimes upset a better team. Much more parody in hockey then basketball. |

The whole point is to acquire superstars. You can get them 3 ways: draft, trade or FA. He's setting them up to be able to get them. |
