Why not? He's got more pro experience than anyone else right now. I wouldn't at all be surprised if he cracks the line up as a regular before anyone.
- mochoson

Fingers crossed. He's got all the tools.

I wish he was a dime a dozen player, then we'd be able to get more like him on the team, pretty easily.

Replacing Matt Reads contributions would not be difficult at all IMO.

He'd be a throw-in after last season, so I doubt Hexy does anything with him before the TDL. Of course if he plays better next season, his value goes up...to both the Flyers and potential trade partners. Conundrums. No fun.
- wolfhounds

I'd rather have to figure out what to do with a good player than figure out what to do with a bad one. Really hoping Read can have a bounce back year. I like him a lot and don't want to move him but would understand if it was to bring in more assets Sam Hinkie style.

Speaking of, how bout that robbery?!?!?

Out of curiosity what do you see as his contributions?

Hagg is not the first name I'd mention when it comes to young blue liners joining the team. He'd be 5th.

Sam Donnellon is clueless when it comes to hockey, and sports in general.

Penalty killing, playing on a shutdown line, contributing an appropriate amount of offense for his role.

Provorov, Morin, Sanheim and Ghost are all better prospects than him.

Not dime a dozen, he is a quality player when healthy. Speedy, defensively sound, can score at a reasonable clip, can play in all situations at all positions.

Having said all that, I don't want him to go right now, but I wouldn't be upset if he is gone (depending on the return).

Matt Read is a good 3rd line winger, who can step up and fill in on the 2nd line when needed and is solid on the PK. However, he is replaceable. If you can find someone younger to fill his role for less cash, then by all means, trade him.

I like Matt Read, but at some point, he's probably going to have to go when it comes time to resign others.
- jmatchett383

Is he really fat on the bone? I think he's a great value for what he did prior to last year. He may be a piece to move when the time is right, but I don't think in any way shape or form, does he belong grouped together with the other three he mentioned.

Agreed. Hagg has all the tools, but he's going to have step up his intensity on a consistent basis if he ever wants to play in the NHL

A new Phantoms coach might help Hagg. And I don't think being a 'better' prospect' really means all that much. It's NHL or bust for these kids.

I woke up this morning and had to read 3 different articles to fully understand what actually happened. My goodness those guys in Sacramento are clueless.

Been saying this for months. He's a dime a dozen player that can be replaced. Hes not going to be with this team long term.
- mochoson

He's far from a dime a dozen player. He's a speedy 2-way forward who (aside from last season) is a consistent 20-goal scorer and top-notch PKer.

I like Hagg! I just have him rated 5th. I also like Alt, he's 6th.

So this is a good deal for Philly?
I have no idea who any of the players in this deal are, I stopped closely following the Sixers when they traded Moses Malone.

Not at all. He's an effective player who contributes to the team in a generally positive way. I just think that he will eventually become expendable.

Good luck finding a winger that can effectively check top lines, play in situations that are prohibitive to scoring, while putting up 2nd line level scoring totals at ES, at his cap hit.

Matt Read's injury and subsequent ineffectiveness, was one of the biggest reasons why the Flyers missed the playoff last year. He is a very important player to this team.

I'd rather have Martin St. Louis for 1 yr at $4mil than Matt Read.

They basically got a top 10 guy they really wanted in last year's draft who SAC wouldn't trade the pick for, a first in 2018, the option to swap 1st round picks the next 2 years, and took on 2 big contracts and gave up a Euro player or 2 and I think a 2nd, maybe another? SAC thinks they are going to get Rondo and a few other guys so needed to make room but basically gave Hinkie more first round action the next 3 years. Plus they're giving up on a top 10 pick after 1 year.

You can absolutely find someone younger, for less cash to fill his role, but etremely doubtful that you can find a player as good at it, as he is.
