i dont think gagner is straight garbage. hes infinitely better than vinny right now, in my opinion. - stayinthefnnet
He's got Brayden Schenn stats.
And it's one year.
We'll live.
Gagner needs an NHL team right now more than it needs him. And he's still better than the dreck on the FA market.

Definitely. Dude's got good hands, that much is clear.
Truthfully, I haven't seen enough, outside of highlights, to see how he fits.
It's just one year and this team ain't contending this year. |

My response to MJL was admittingly on called for and unprovoked, my apologizes but I have to ask, who are the right players to play for this team? Sam Gagner fills a need of depth in the line up and while he's willing to play at any forward position, so was Vinny. Gagner has seen the majority of his career at center but many believe he'll be placed at wing because of his defensive shortcomings. Sam Gagner isn't a player the Flyers should have traded for but he's here. Not a good defensive center, never met expectations offensively. - SuperSchennBros
As you say, he's here. That's really the bottom line for me. I liked Grossmann well enough, but he's gone. Pronger's cap hit is off the books and that's Awesome. We had a sweet draft and I'm in a good place with my favorite team.
Gagner, in my opinion, is a low risk, high reward proposition. He should be very motivated. And as poorly as the Flyers played last season, I believe they are better than any team he has played on to date. And hopefully the developmental side of Hakstol can bring out the best in a still young and once highly regarded athlete.
Finally, without a doubt Hextall would have moved him had he needed and/or had plans for the dollars Gagner is eating. |

I don't know what his wheels are like, but I look forward to a breakaway or two next season where Gagner just makes the goalie look silly with his moves. |

I don't understand how Gagner and Vinny are suddenly linked. I want Umberger out of here so (frank)in bad! |

I wish we could drop the Schenn brothers. They leave such a poor taste in my mouth. |

I see what you did there.
I criticize Baby Schenn as much as anyone, but I want to see him coached up by this dude.
Also, I'm not gonna lie, I've been watching YouTube videos of "The Shift" by Mike Richards: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bs_3PeQQUxc
Loved that guy. |

I bought a Giroux jersey because of the Game 3 OT goal that I saw in person, but Richards was always my guy.
Sucks to see him fall so far. |

Under the Settlement and subject to the NHL’s continued delineation of its clubs’ local broadcast territorial rights, and associated blackout practices, the NHL has agreed to provide seasonal packages of single team’s out-of-market games through NHL GameCenter LIVE for each and every NHL Club (e.g., a stream of just the Chicago Blackhawks’ out-of-market games). These individual team bundles will be priced at 20% below the cost of the full GameCenter LIVE package. The NHL has also agreed to make this option available to Comcast and DIRECTV so that they may offer unbundled seasonal packages of single team games for each and every NHL Club available through NHL Center Ice, although Comcast and DIRECTV are not obligated to offer such packages.
The NHL has also agreed to provide a 17.25% discount to the retail prices for the early bird, renewal, and full-season packages of GameCenter LIVE for the 2015-2016 season. This discount will also apply to any unbundled single team package, meaning that the price for a single team package will be discounted by 17.25% thereby maintaining the 20% discount set forth above.

@frank_seravalli: Sounds as if #Flyers will be buying out Sam Gagner. Hextall won't commit to keeping him. #TSN
Hextall transcript: - Feanor
Be nice -- plenty of media, including Bill, surmised the same thing
But after last week, I'll say this: If folks care that much about Seravalli to parse every word while ignoring everybody else's, then go for it
How people spend their time is up to them, and it's up to me to determine how to spend my time, and no matter what I say or anyone else says, Seravalli is doing what he does, and none of us can control that, either |

Never a Frank fan. I remember when he put out that ridiculous Stamkos to Flyers rumor a few years back. It was so apparent that he was just hoping to put something out there and it would stick so he could say he initially reported it. Never did I think the Flyers were getting Stamkos. Enjoy Toronto Frank, you aren't missed here
- nonpoint22
Frank is still here, just working for TSN now. |

It wasn't hard to surmise that Flyers seriously considered a buyout if they felt optimistic about other options. Hexy was asked three times if the team was keeping Gagner. Three times he was totally non-committal. Asked about a buyout possibility, he said the brass would meet on Monday and decide a direction. Asked if he felt it was more likely the player was NOT bought out, Hextall said he had no idea yet.
Compare those statements to his statements on Vinny's situation as relates to a buyout possibility. From April onward, Hextall said emphatically that he had no interest whatsoever in buying the player out. Trade yes, buyout no.
On Sunday, Gagner said he hoped to stay and management had told him they were going to try to make it work --- mind you, with the team already under the cap with enough room to make the minor moves that have followed plus get something done with MDZ -- but he understood if they felt the need to buy him out.
In other words, the Flyers clearlwere kicking tires on something larger but elected to more or less stand pat.

Bill, they only have 4.1M left in cap space. Will MDZ sign for 3M or less to give them enough wiggle room? Seems unlikely to me but that is what you are suggesting above right? Of course they could always try arbitration.

I hear you, and understand completely -- he didn't say yes or no, but sometimes, people who conduct the interviews have to assess what wasn't said, as well. People reported what he actually said, then assessed it and offered their take
I don't understand the intense hatred that Seravalli inspires, but again, whatever floats people's boats. No one cares if I don't understand it
