It's a bold move...but as much as I like Kapanen, I think it's a good one for the Penguins. - Jsaquella

im mixed about the deal. still havent had a lot of time to digest it.
was away from a non work computer all day today. came in and was like oh minor move, minor move, OH... - stayinthefnnet
I think it will start well and end badly. The Pens just have so little depth. They're going to score, no question about that. I just don't think there will be enough secondary scoring after their top handful of guys. |

Obviously, but Crosby gets to play with a really elite offensive winger. Be interesting to see how they mesh |

They don't have the depth if one of them goes down with injury as well. |

Crosby and Malkin will fight with the coaching staff over who gets Phil on their line. The rift will run deep and force Rutherford to deal Malkin for a package that includes two top 6 wingers over 30, one fringe prospect and a late first round pick, which will be flipped for another top 6 winger at the deadline. |

What does it say about Vinny and his contract that Arizona would take Prongers dead contract and Florida would take Savard's dead contract, but not take him? |

nothing ... the dead contracts can help a team get up to the floor, without having to make any immediate subtractions from their roster. |

Absolutely nothing consider Vinny is owed 8.5 million where as Pronger and Savard are owed under a mill |

I saw some of the TSN coverage today and man does Ray Ferraro hate Kapanen for being a perimeter player. He said he'd need a 46 foot stick to deflect in a goal. |

Thing is, if you want Voracek at 7M per and not at 8.25M per, the contract lenght will help in lowering the annual salary cap hit (AAV). - Chris48
If he's getting 7M per, the length of the deal is not going to lower the AAV. Whether it's 7M per for 5 years or 7M per over 8 years, the AAV is still 7M.

The real value is the cost in salary versus cap hit, and as you said, to help get to the floor.

It's been mentioned that the Flyers are going to have a conservative cap approach. The cap this year is pretty much the same as it has been for a while. When all is said and done, unless the make another trade to remove a player without taking salary back, the Flyers are going to be within a million or so of the upper limit, once they sign Del Zotto. The only reason they won't be over and into LTIR is because they were able to move Pronger. |
