Benning is making some very questionable moves. Like I said straight up Kassian for Prust should have been the deal. Canadiens would have got a top 6 player with size and cap relief. There was no read on to add the draft pick.

You of all should know about his questionable moves.

For the Habs to take Kassians off ice issues we had to sweeten the deal a bit. Not a biggy.

Other reports last year came out that Bruins had interst. I guess it boils down to who do you believe
- VANTEL

Joe Haggerty on TSN 1040 saying he doesn't think Bruins were interested in acquiring Kassian. Mentioned off-ice conduct.

Bruins insider was on 1040 today talking, said Bruins were not interested in Kass because of off-ice issue...not wanting to travel down the Seguin road again.

Okay, so Hayes for Smith/Savard clears BOS cap room (he counts during the summer) to add Beleskey.

They took Savards contract off Boston's hands too

I am going out now but will just respond anyways.

I think it is a biggie. Most people on here and everywhere had Kassian slotted on the top line. Myself included. I would take that , as most people here ,expected him to be one of the best on the team.

One of the young player that most had high hopes for , today was traded for a bag of peanuts and we had to add a draft pick to get that slim return. I think it says something about the state of team.

It is still the beginning of summer and things can change but I don't in any way see this as a positive.

Good luck to Bieksa Lack and Kassian , they needed to be moved , but Benning is proving to be a horrible negotiator.

It certainly says something about the state of the player - but very little about the team.

We don't know anything about what kind of negotiator he is. We may have slotted Kassian in as a first liner, but WD and the other coaches hardly ever put him there. Since WD and the other coaches put Burrows on the first line the most, Canucks should be able to get a ton for him if they choose to trade him.

Kassian is empty in the head....three regimes he's had a chance, and pissed it away every time. His career is on the Cody hodgeson trajectory...which is basically he's circling the bowl and almost going under. We dropped another distraction and acquired character and heart. Very solid move by JB and I'm very happy with his moves today. They finally get that being in the middle won't get this team where it wants to be !

I agree, I think people have gotten snowed with his potential, he's practically a bust at this point. He's not physical enough, nor does he score enough consistently to excuse it. He makes stupid plays offensively, takes dumb penalties and he's also a mess off the ice. We got rid of a problem for a roster spot for JV and a 13th forward that will provide energy, physicality, heart and leadership... all traits we've been crying for years for. So what that we had to give up a 5th round pick, it's a freaking 5th round pick for gods sake.

Mixed feelilngs on the trade. I love Prust for his truculence and his team-first attitude but, like yourself, I had higher hopes for Kassian. He did flash some promise last year and I felt he just needed to improve on a few things (didn't really factor into any off-ice issues, though) to get to that next level. You don't find many big guys that also have the hands, and he had a nice knack for the net (at least when he was on his game). What surprised me even more was his play-making ability. In the end, I truly hope this doesn't end up being Neely Part II.

The one thing I do absolutely agree with is, this should have been a straight swap and no other players or draft picks should have gone the other way. I know it's only a 5th rounder but it's the principal of the thing. As I noted earlier, the jury is still out on Benning but the more I see the kinds of moves being made, the more I'm wondering about his negotiating skills. I hope it's just a few anomalies and that he'll crank a few out of the ball park in the coming months.

Under four mill isnt horrible. Lets just hope the guy can score 20+ again.

Actually, for the Bruins sake. Lets hope he cant.

Prust is not the same since his shoulder injury in Tampa.

He's always injured but never mention it.

Plus, rumors said he brings Glachenyuk and Gallagher in too many after hours

Those would be the same people who thought lack was worth a first rounder ++. Take of the rose colored glasses and see this team for what it really is. Benning gave them a go ( I'm sure at Aquillinis prodding ) and saw what a poop show it's become. He's tearing out the cancer , opening roster spots for energized enthusiastic farm kids and giving is fans a reason to care again. Let's face it anyone who truly is a fan of this team knows that they were broken by the bruins and never recovered. I'd honestly rather watch the comets play in Vancouver then sit through one more season of this dead team.

I agree the way Prust plays is always going to leave him more susceptible to injury. And he's certainly had his share of those with, as you pointed out, the shoulder now being involved in several incidents. Still, you've got to love his game - he can even chip in with the odd goal now and again. But those injury concerns are always going to be there unfortunately.

So, you're saying he's been a bit of a bad influence on some of the younger guys? it certainly hasn't affected the way they play, however, as both Galenchyuk and Gallagher had good seasons.

I agree, he hasn't been the best at negotiating but I think we're finding out why Gillis was hesitant to make moves during his last year and a half here. Our valuable assets all have NTC's so there aren't bidding wars for them and the guys without NTC's aren't in high demand.

People need to accept it. You guys ripped Gillis for always holding out because he kept saying that he wasn't getting offered good trades and now we have a GM who's making moves even if he's not getting the best value.

The Canucks aren't dealing from a position of strength.

If we had so many valuable assets then this team wouldn't be mediocre.
