Everybody in Van really wanted Bert 2.0
Just because you wish for something doesn't mean it's what you really need.
Benning is doing just fine guys.

Ruutu was much more consistent. |

We all said blow it up and they are. I have no issues at all. We are getting some return and nobody is getting waived. All is well in my world.
Huge thanks to Bieksa as he was the heart and soul of this team for a long time. One of my all time favourite Canucks. Bitter sweet seeing him go.
Kassian thanks for?

NHL Winners & Losers from MSN.com
Winners - CAL, EDM
Losers - VAN (write up below)
On the night before free agency, the Vancouver Canucks parted with solid, longtime defenseman Kevin Bieksa for a second-round pick from Anaheim—which figures to be a pick at No. 50 or beyond at best. They were also poised to lose forward Shawn Matthias for nothing.
The next day, they went out and did…not much. Well, they did add Brandon Prust from Montreal for Zack Kassian, who was supposed to be the Next Big Thing after coming over from Buffalo for Cody Hodgson in 2012. Essentially, Vancouver gave up on what was supposed to be a cornerstone of the future for an aging grinder who scored four goals in 82 games last season.
Vancouver got lucky in last year's free-agent, ahem, frenzy, getting a fine year out of Radim Vrbata and a serviceable one from Ryan Miller before he got hurt. Now, it seems as if Vancouver has regressed again. The playoffs seem much further away after Wednesday. - VanHockeyGuy
Read the sportsnet one, they had the Leafs as Winners, for getting great return for Kessel and landing coveted free agents Winnik and PA Parenteau...
WTF, how can they spin that.... |

If its truly character/off ice issues with players and JB sells low, I get it. Not a doubt he's being honest with his counterparts. There are things people shouldn't know. Good trade then for everyone. - VanHockeyGuy
THIS. I would prefer a GM that is honest and has a good reputation.
It's pretty hard to sell high when the team is losing. What other GM is going to look at a losing team and covet the pieces?
I'm more of a sell high kinda' guy. After 2012 I would have been looking to shake things up while the players would have had more value.
Imagine how pi$$ed Lombardi is with Sweeney and Wilson right now.
DW also offer sheeted Hjalmarsson to push the Hawks in a corner and forced their hand on Niemi. He's a sneaky guy that will make more enemies in the long haul. HE can owner snow the ownership group for so long. |

This isn't meant as a shot at you directly, more just a general observation... but I would love it if we could go one day (just one!) without bringing up the Leafs on our discussion board. I just don't get the infatuation with that team on here. - nucks_94

Ruutu was solid while he was here. Crow got him playing the game the right way and Jarko made a career out of it... |

This is a bit much but, surprisingly, Weise has been very useful to us.
As I said above, it would be great if Kassian works out but if not we still have that 5th pick as a consolation prize. You guys got rid of a problem and gained a heart & soul guy that will give you everything he's got.
Both teams are getting something in the end. - Garfield512
A bit of tongue and cheek. He's a cult hero for sure.
I didn't have a problem with him. Torts just had a hard on for him.

I'm actually kind of excited about the season. The kids have a shot to play up front this year.
Worst case ... none of the kids are ready:
Daniel Henrik Burr
Higgins Horvat Vrbata
Hansen Bones Dorsett
Prust Vey Kenins
Opportunities:
Daniel Henrik Vrbata
Higgins(Shink) Horvat (Virtanen/Jensen/Shink)
Hansen Bones(Shink) Burr
Prust (Gaunce/McCann/Cassels) Dorsett
Pressbox: Vey Kenins
It will be cool to see how they do and if any follow Horvat's path.
Looks like Shinkaruk has the toughest road to get in. He needs a shot on the second line really. I hope he makes it ... we need the personality infusion.
(Oops ... just realized I totally forgot Baertschi ... going to be competitive camp! ) - whales
How can you potentially slot Shink as 3C??? that is out of control...

My buddies in Port Co. have seen Kassian out on the town on more than one occasion with his entourage. They haven't outright seen him doing blow but it's fairly widely known in the night club circles around Van I guess...has been for awhile.
Hey Booner quick question on fishing if you have a moment...I have been heading back to the mountains out there frequently (Nordegg region) and hitting some of the old flyfishing spots. What would you recommend for a decent rod and reel nowadays that won't break the bank but is decent quality? Mine is a POS. Please let me know if you have any ideas. - LordHumungous
I posted something similar at least a year ago or more. people in the know, know... the guy was rumoured/ seen with(?) buddies with (?) known dealers from Abbotsford... |

I think Shink in brackets is for either wing, he is next to Burrows' name too...
Love seeing the different lineups and who could be where. |

Would like to see Corrado moved or more change on the back end. I like Corrado's play, but want to see more size and physical play in the third pairing.
I guess we will have to see. |

Not sure I'd call trading bieksa blowing it up. baby steps.
He was a key role player and personality on the team. Who do people think is going to step more into that role?
