The Sedins will never get traded, and I highly doubt (I am a betting man) they would walk as UFAs. They have built their lives so much around Vancouver, from playing for the Canucks to donating millions to Sick Kids Hospital. They even have a hospital wing named after them. The numbers 22 & 33 will be retired in Vancouver. If the Sedins ever leave Vancouver, it will be to return to Sweden.
On another note, the Canucks need to do a lot more tweaking this summer. First, trade Higgins. He's not bad offensively, but I'd rather have someone younger and cheaper. I don't care for Weber, maybe we can trade him now that he is signed. Same with Sbisa.
The Canucks need to promote their propects. Bring in Virtanen, Grenier, and Subban. I think Corrado is highly overrated and should be traded. Clendening has some promise. - monsmaark
I'd like to see a year out of Corrado before he is moved - is pretty highly thought of by Canucks management.

If you can salvage Kassian it's a clear win for you guys. Prust should get us something at the deadline. - golfingsince
Good reply, totally correct. I always liked Kassian, however? Man, the guy has all the skills in the world. Not sure what happened there, he does though. None of our business. I like the vibe of that kind of player as a fan, but... |

Corrado / Clendening? Decent players/wildcards I feel sorry for them, the press will roast them. |

Doesn't matter what Benning or Linden does. As long as ownership demands for them to make the playoffs each and every year we will always just sit in the middle of the pack. The only way I'll ever see a cup in vancouver if I outlive the current ownership |
|
|

Not really sure how to think about the draft or today. Is the team taking a step backward, for the upcoming season? Yes. The big picture? not sure. Season ticket sales will truly tell you how the plan is going moving forward. |

What we know is the west got better real fast. Ownership may not have a choice at this point in time. |

BTW, I will be at Duncan Keith's parents house in a couple of weeks in Penticton for a Stanley Cup appearance. Will post some pictures, however I will never touch it. |

Was this a rhetorical question?
We now have two of the top five PIM leaders in the league. I for one am thrilled with this trade! |

Should help Dorsett with the heavy lifting and hopefully give our guys some support. I think he'll do well, it didn't seem to me that he got much playing time in Montreal |

He did with Bieksa trade - VANTEL
How do you know that? Both SJ and the Ducks have to play a season to see where they pick first.

I agree, he hasn't been the best at negotiating but I think we're finding out why Gillis was hesitant to make moves during his last year and a half here. Our valuable assets all have NTC's so there aren't bidding wars for them and the guys without NTC's aren't in high demand.
People need to accept it. You guys ripped Gillis for always holding out because he kept saying that he wasn't getting offered good trades and now we have a GM who's making moves even if he's not getting the best value.
The Canucks aren't dealing from a position of strength.
If we had so many valuable assets then this team wouldn't be mediocre. - Nucker101
Very good point.
People say waive if we cant trade but if we actually get something, they are disappointed...
People want us to get tougher so we don't get pushed around in our division. Prust 2nd in fighting majors last year...disappointed.
People want to get younger and draft but want to bring in impact players because or conference is getting better around us. Disappointment either way then...
Kassian's baggage must have been worse than we thought if Benning needed to give up a 5th with him and consider the fact that Kassian didnt get a better offer from the rest of the league.

Maybe Getzlaf and Kesler break both of their legs each in a bizarre spooning accident in early October, missing the first 4 months of the season, making the pick much much better. |

You have a short memory, it was only one year ago that the Canucks were picking 6th. Pretty sure the owner "demanded" to make the playoffs that year too. |

He's a "good ol Canadian boy", but more then that, his give a poop meter is pegged at 11. This will help the next generation of Canucks learn to be professionals. |

1) I thought Kassian was going to get another shot on the top line as well but obviously MNGT sees otherwise and is very aware of his antics. It appears they were done with him months ago. In 3.5 years he has shown no consistency to be a top 6 player.
2) The state of the team is rebuild or retool on the fly or whatever. Now that it is apparently in full swing people aren't happy. Bottom line is that we have NTC's and players that no team wants outside of Horvat and the Sedins. We have literally zero value to offer other clubs and get the return we desire. So it's drafting and developing. Such is life in the bigs. Many have been calling for the rebuild and now it's starting and we need to get on board with the fact that the players we are trying to trade are next to worthless. Our return is what it is.
3) Yes I partially agree Benning needs negotiating skills but that will come. Rookie GMs will make snap decisions and mistakes. After the moves he made in season 1 to get us into the playoffs when we really should not have been there...I have some faith that his plan for our youth will pan out. We finally have a decent prospect list that he is apparently making room for on the roster. It's what many have wanted and we need to be able to handle the swings up and down and there will be many. - LordHumungous

So Kassian is gone. I don't like that we got a player over 30 but Prust is better than Kassina. The 5th was probably thrown in as a thanks for taking this lazy boozer with "back" issues??? off our hands. I didn't hate Kassian but he has issue all of us know that. - thundachunk
I heard from a friend who is a Canuck employee(rink rat) almost 3 years ago that they were already calling him Kocaine Kassian. Thats the only comment I have on that. I can see the water cooler gang speculating that just from his buggy bulging eyes... or because Kassian scores off them. Either way, I don't pretend to know.

They really didnt do anything to secure a playoff spot this season. Without Bieksa, our D is better based on time in own zone and give aways... but the additions didnt really do much I think.
The one move Benning did that could push a playoff spot is Miller last season. The last thing this team needs (but owner would like) is for Miller to have a real bounce back stellar season.

Do you not know his off ice issues? Come on man. The guy likes booze and coke more than Richards......it's a good trade |
