Babcock was pretty clear in his initial interviews that he wanted this. He said he essentially interviewed the Leafs to make sure that they really were committed to the pain of a true rebuild (draft and develop).

I'm not a fan of the salary retention but I can live with it. We saw this past weekend that it's kinda easy to get 2nd rd picks. They gave Pitt theirs back.
