And you expected rebuilding to be about veterans?
- systemtool

Did my post actually say that? The deal is like a mirror image of Franson and Santorelli for Leipsic, 1st, and Jokinen, except someone forgot to tell the Leafs that Kessel is an elite scorer, multiple PPG/80 point seasons. He had a bad year. He's not the first to have a bad year.

Honestly, if the LA Kings missed a year after winning the cup, anyone can miss.
- mykokes

True enough... I don't think they miss though...

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. It's 2009 right?

He's just happy to see Phil go. From that standpoint, I can agree. I just never understood the rush. If he was 30, sure, but 28, he wasn't going to get worse. Not yet anyways.
- mykokes

Ys, the conditions of the draft pick, and the salary retention are the sad realities of this trade. Might have been better to wait it out through free agency. If Phil was as big of a douche as he has been claimed to be, maybe they felt they had to jump ship ASAP... Still too many concessions IMO though...

Sorry. My bad.

I thought being a draft whore, as you mentioned among your knocks, was a bad thing. I see bow that you're complaining about something you agree with..carry on!

4realz (if you can trust penguins)

http://penguins.nhl.com/c...19&cmpid=pit-twt-penguins

*If Pittsburgh qualifies for the 2016 postseason, Toronto will receive the Penguins’ 2016 first-round draft pick; and the Penguins will receive Toronto’s 2016 second-round selection. The second-round pick would be the one Toronto originally acquired from Pittsburgh for Daniel Winnik earlier this year.

*Should Pittsburgh miss the 2016 playoffs, Toronto will INSTEAD receive the Penguins’ 2017 first-round pick; with Pittsburgh getting Toronto’s 2017 second-round selection in return.

*If the Penguins were to miss the postseason the next two years, Toronto would receive Pittsburgh’s 2017 second-round draft pick and Pittsburgh would not receive a draft pick.

Complicated deal but makes sense.

I mentioned this. I was the first to do so. Don't try to sell my own point back to me, thanks. The deal wasn't perfect, but with a NTC and public media/fan bashing, he had to go and this was the best deal.

Somewhat. I feel there was too much damage done this season to bring him back, but man, salary retention sucks..

Disagree. We have no idea how the course of the team will have changed if the Kessel trade didn't happen. It's all speculation.

I'm pretty sure the only team worse than Toronto is Phoenix right now. The Marlies are going to be better than the Leafs.

So ur saying not adding the teams best player that season would have improved the team... Interesting.

It isn't Leaf hate. You look at real legit elite players and they battle for the Art Ross Trophy. Guys like Crosby, Giroux, Benn, Getzlaf, Perry and Ovechkin. These guys make other players better. Kessel has only scored 30 goals once in his career and his highest point total was 60 points. He is a one way player and he will do slightly better in Pits but he is in now way elite and he isn't going to help stop pucks from going in the Pens net. They will have to out score opponents every time to win.
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

Something in the water in Philly.

- AdamFrench

My favourite part is when he said they will have to outscore their opponents every time to win.

Sorry Pens, no more Ws for scoring less than your opponents anymore
